He was a subpar track athlete that did not qualify for the finals at district. Whether or not he should've been there, I couldn't say. It depends on how Frisco runs their meets.

In our district, prelims and field events are held one afternoon/evening with running finals taking place the following evening. When I was in school, it was prelims in the morning, field in the afternoon, and finals in the evening.

So, if his district does everything in a single day, he was ok to be there. If it was on the day of prelims/field, he was ok to be there. If it was split over two days, and it occurred during the finals, he should've been in class on his own campus, if it happened during school hours. If it was in the evening, he was ok to be there.

You said that he was more upset about the race stuff than his son being dead. It is not usually exclusive. And I'm sure he's way more upset about his son being dead. That's what I was referring to.
