I also find it ironic that some are saying Texas is in danger of flips with the redrawn maps when it's California that's much more vulnerable to their tactics back-firing.

Though very unlikely, that would be ideal, as this latest redistricting still left a lot of "meat on the bone" compared to what the GOP could have squeezed out of it. These new districts are still noticeably less gerrymandered than say... for example... the entirety of New England.

That being said, one thing that concerns me a little with the new maps is that we used the 2024 presidential election as our partisan baseline. Without Trump on the ballot I fear that some of these new districts might prove to be a bit Trumpier than they are generic Republican (especially if the candidates running in those districts look more like Bush-Romney Republicans than MAGA Republicans).

Doubtful. I don't expect the SCOTUS decision to be handed down until well into primary season for the midterms.

Well, you draw the maps right now and have everything lined up for the decision to drop. Heck - have the maps on respective governors' desks in mid-June so they can sign them the day the decision drops…

But I'm pretty sure that'd screw up the primaries and likely cause chaos for the general. Probably enough it doesn't get implemented for 2026.

Could also try to Leeroy Jenkins the thing and issue a new map today with the hope that a favorable lower judge will let it "stick" but I assume that'd be just as nasty.

Supposed to be decided in January. A more likely option is this gets a full panel after this 3 judge panel and it's overruled

The one and the same. He was nominated by Trump as well. He ruled more or less the same in a redistricting case in Galveston.
