Wow. You must have worked at same school as I did. We had these look alikes in the 90s! Misfits who found each other. Pissed off at world and themselves. They found each other and stayed by themselves. Blamed their conditions on the good kids. Took offense to any kind of criticism. But, just like these, they would blind side the good kids in the halls for real or imagined injustices. Their chickensheet ways were championed by their group. Membership in their group was open to anyone! I counseled a new kid who was hanging with them and he said, "they were nice to me". I told kid it takes work to find the good kids, and contrary to what you think, you can find your way to the good kids. These guys take all comers, and require nothing to be one of them.
Go to your kids or grandkids elementary school about 30 minutes to an hour after first bell, and you will see a new generation of these being dropped off late by both a mom and dad in pajama pants, both with cigs dangling out of their mouth and headed back home or to the game center. They preach to their kids about how everyone else screws them out of their rightful place- but, lol. Don't do much to improve themselves!
