Actually, proving the negative is the one thing you can do.

We have a presumption of innocence and then we have beyond reasonable doubt. Proving absolute innocence is the tricky part and almost never happens.

Not different than scientific method. You can always add up supportive evidence and make a damn good case. But it only takes one tiny exculpatory item to prove it wrong.

The problem with this scenario (or set of scenarios) is that it leaves the majority of questions totally unanswered. Including:

1. How did Epstein acquire his wealth? He was allegedly a finance guy but didn't know common stock from chicken stock. Seriously, they never found anyone who had some sort of a trading relationship with a guy who traded to amass millions. Can you explain that?

2. What was Maxwell convicted of? Procuring girls for underage sex, right? For who? Epstein? Epstein was dead when Maxwell was tried. Maxwell could have testified that she didn't know what the person was talking about, that she was around Epstein a lot and he never had sex with anyone under age, especially not the (now) women that testified against her. No one could have refuted that. She didn't testify because she feared for her life in naming names. 20 years and coming out alive was better than getting what she thinks Epstein might have gotten.

3. Speaking of Epstein getting it, while I'm still skeptical of the idea that they waited to off him when he was in custody rather than while he was running around free, the bungling of the investigation and the failure to answer simple questions surrounding that does raise a lot of questions. You have to almost assume he was murdered. His death benefitted way too many people. Otherwise, he was a guy that did little girls, amassed a whole lot of wealth, and flew people to his island, people that didn't know what was going on. Does that really pass your smell test? What was the incentive for those that flew with him to the island if they weren't there for sex?

When you start thinking of this in terms not of R/d but of donors (to both parties) it starts to make more sense. Are you going to be at least a little sympathetic to the guy that helped finance your Michigan win, for example? I'm not saying that's the case here but IF there are donors out there that themselves or good friends are potentially involved, how would Trump or any of Trumps close advisors react?

I honestly don't know. I'd like to think he'd do the right thing but if Trump is still thinking about helping finance Congressional and Senate campaigns in '26 to help move his agenda along, who knows.

WSJ has an article this weekend about what it is like in the minimum security prison where she is housed. Apparently some of the inmates are upset because sex offenders aren't supposed to be in minimum security. Her presence is somewhat disruptive because suddenly minimum security isn't so minimum anymore. Lockdowns are more frequent, and some formerly unarmed guards are now carrying. Sounds like she also showers alone for safety reasons. Several inmates who answered questions for this interview got transferred to more secure facilities, but that is probably standard practice.

It's a country club. I used to deliver news papers there and learned about options trading from a guy waiting outside on the front porch for his newspaper every morning. His paper never got into the vending machine and I would use his change to open it up and load the rest.
