So true. I miss the days when teachers complained about having to 'raise' or babysit their students.

Conservatives need to get into the education field.

While I don't disagree, how do we incentivize this? It's not a field many conservatives seem to want to enter, at least not at higher levels of education.

Better pay, less bureaucratic interference, vastly reduced administrative bull***** Teachers, especially elementary & junior high, have an outsized effect on the society as a whole than most all if not all other jobs in our society.

Here's the REAL problem with public schools...

Exactly. To top it off test scores and literacy continue to decline at a horrific rate.

That's a pretty hard sell, given what teaching pays vs other employment opportunities.

I volunteer my time with a few organizations while holding employment that pays a lot more than a teaching position, or even a university lecturer.

I can serve my community and provide a better standard of living for my family than I could working in education.

I think a lot of conservatives would hold the same view. While both are important, welfare of the family is going to come before welfare of the community.

Then conservatives can't complain when the field is dominated by liberals. My wife and I are both educators and we live comfortably. We would love to make more money but we don't complain about how much we get paid.

My biggest frustration is that there is essentially no growth opportunities in education that allows me to stay in the classroom. Every field deals with some version of that though.

There are supposedly "elite" prep academies all over the place with christian sounding names that aren't really faith based and full of lefty families/teachers/admin. Mostly inside the loop type places. They really aren't hard to find, and they aren't that hard to sift out.

Thanks for the response.

This. I taught for two years because I was kind of at a crossroads in my career. I enjoyed it and could afford it because I've already had a private sector career. My wife teaches because we can. But we are in our late '40s. No way someone can afford to just go teach today and see it as a career unless they either have family money, a spouse making a lot more, or just accept being poor.

And the amount of administrative BS is shocking to anyone who experiences it. And most of that is created at the State and Federal level created by both Democrats and Republicans.

Feds need to be out of the education game altogether . It's State and local business.

So a school shooting should be celebrated to push gun control, when it happened in a no gun "safe" zone.

I'm glad to see Abbott did this.

Can I get a list of the names who were fired? I want to check my ISD's directory.

Yes, are they near me (probably)? They're not going to teach my kid if I have anything to do with it.

Hundreds of thousands of kids killed in school by guns? What ****ing world do these people live on?

School buses injure and kill more kids than shootings.

It wouldn't be so infuriating if they didn't pump the numbers up to drive outrage by increasing the gun violence age of "kids" to 19 just to make sure they capture all the gang *****

DON'T LET THE TRUTH GET IN THE WAY OF YOUR NARRATIVE!

Again, one of the issues here is that progressives do not hear/read/see much of what conservatives do.

The conservative sees the vile quotes and the calls for additional murder, etc. They see all the nasty stuff that is said and shared.

The progressive simply reads that "people are being fired for commenting on the issue" because "MAGA is pouncing." The nastiness is hidden or even lied about.

And still do not see need for hardly any of it Get rid of 90% it. The 19th and early 20th C taught smarter kids with no such massive meddling entities or Teacher's Unions.

Yes but the thing is the meddling entities and teacher's unions mostly don't care about quality education . They care about their own power.

That sounds like a reason to get rid of them, not keep them.

Just be aware you are trading one set of problems for another.

Most "Christian" schools are anything but "Christian," especially in MS and HS.

Honest question, as I have two young granddaughters in a Christian private school - what problems do you see in such school?

Totally agree but not sure how that can be made to happen.

Edited to say, I think fed government level meddling entities could be on the chopping block on constitutional grounds but not sure how you get rid of union and other progressive entities
