This is so insulting. I'd almost they rather do nothing than this weak joke of an EO. No wonder Trump said the CEOs liked it. And Lutnick is an idiot. Why is he spouting nonsense… it only takes 5 minutes to read the EO and understand it's not an annual fee.

Very disappointing. I was taken for a royal ride too.

I wish someone asks Lutnick about it since he is on tape clarifying it and Trump was there and did not interject to say he was wrong.

Trump follows social media so he knows people are pissed.

Let's see if he does something about it.

Anyone tired of winning yet??

Damn this sucks. Trump seems to be just another charlatan unless he fixes this. Does he thinks that we are fools and cannot read?
Was Lutnick lying? Or did they try to cheat us right from the beginning?
A few H1B pimps I know are rejoicing.

This isn't how lawyers interpreted it.

Tech company lawyer interpretation is that after midnight sponsors will owe 100k for existing H1Bs that are overseas to re-enter the country.

LMAO. Yeah, we need third world doctors because we cant matriculate quality in-country. We have the best med schools on Planet Earth.

For American physician dominated fields like surgical subspecialties, radiology, dermatology this will have no effect. The low paying fields are full of international grads. Even some of the moderately high paying fields like cardiology and gastroenterology are full of international physicians

The number of Indian dentists in this area is pretty outrageous too.

Are they "Indian American" or Indians from India?

I saw all over social media that Indians already on planes to leave the US began deboarding planes as soon as they found out. And Indians outside the US were rushing to find last minute flights to the US. I'd be TICKED to blow that kind of money because all the lawyers gave that interpretation, and then find out they were wrong.

Trump is on TV now.

He seems to be harping about how companies find it hard to find enough people to work here. That actually is NOT the problem. He talks about "great people" who go to school here and have to go back and he wants to keep them here.

Many people, esp some classes of Indians go to fake colleges in the US and ones which are diploma mills in order to stay in the country. They don't care about the education.

Is Trump clueless about the problem??

yes, like many subjects Trump has a facile and inch level knowledge of the details of the actual massive issue.

while DeSantis and Cruz are masters of knowing every small detail about a public policy- Trump is not a deep thinker

so when some CEO tells him

"oh in a country of 330 million Americans we need to import another 3 million Indians and Iranians and Pakistanis to do all the real hard work!"

he accepts it as fact.

It will be interpreted and at the discretion of the immigration officer processing people coming into the country. I've worked with many H-1B holders, and it is a crapshoot every time they go home to visit family. It is very common for them to get stuck in their home countries for weeks at a time, though they are always re-admitted to the US with help from company-hired lawyers.

Yeah, yeah, I know. They should all go home and stay there.

It would be the fault of the EO wording, not the lawyers. I've seen that multiple companies came to the same interpretation.

H1 is for jobs.
F1 is the student VISA, no change there.

This will still affect new H1s.

They come here to get a graduate degree with the sole intent of getting hired by a US company. The only way they can get the H-1B is with the advanced degree. It creates an artificial demand for engineer with graduate degrees to fill jobs which quite frankly could be filled by engineers with only a bachelor's.

I agree.
The problem is the US works solely on money. Which is fine but it is not as simple as that and there are nuances. There is short term monetary gain but long term intellectual loss we are trading it for.

What we did for 30 years was to never invest in our own people, get slaves from India just to save a measly buck and became so incompetent over the years that we cannot do anything with Indian help. It is not wrong if they laugh at us that we are in their hands.

This is a flaw in the American thinking. Old civilizations like India and China never fall for this as they have long term history. We think everyone is as dumb and greedy as we are. Foreigners know it is easy to fool Americans by just dangling some money in front of their noses. Our own Boomer crowd here is an example - they proudly say that if someone can find workers for cheap anywhere, they should be allowed to get it. Typical single dimensional short term thinking which will doom us.

We don't really do anything to protect America. We think it will protect itself and we can abuse it as we like.

So these clowns announced something with a lot of fanfare that impacts 1% of the H1B holders.

And we were celebrating that we took America back? I like like an egg on my face.

Ladies and gentlemen! Just become investors. Buy an index fund with all your money and sit tight and watch it grow. That is all. America is not for hard working Americans (unless you want to become plumbers, HVAC guys, sewage workers, janitors, bagger boys). It is now a country for investors.

You have a choice, fall in line and become rich/richer and have a comfortable life and retirement. Or fight this and stay/become poor, jobless and homeless. I realized this 11 years ago that that no government cares for me. I had seen H1B consuming America as far back as 2002. There is no light at the end. Our kids are doomed and will end up working in China, India, and Brazil. America will be overrun.

Art of the Steal - By Don the Con.

At this point, I will not vote Republican again unless they bring in a real EO that works. I will just stay at home next year, the country is going to hell anyway.

Don't worry Rex, it's not your fault and it was a long time ago. You did not break any laws. It is the fault of the government for being so stupid and allowing this for decades.

Everyone has to make sacrifices to keep this great country alive. Nothing comes free. We as a society have become to taking and not giving back and calling it capitalism and free markets. Just common sense will tell you that we are taking the wrong path.

One scenario may have played out...

Trump and Lutnick announced the H1B plan which was supposed to be annual fee and for all H1Bs as hoped. But in a few hours, they got calls from the CEOs and realized that this would severely jolt the tech companies who may not be able to survive this as they had gotten accustomed to low salary "talented" slaves from India. You cannot give a man a drug for years and then take his drug away and expect no withdrawals and ill effects. So Trump decided to ease the potency of the EO to make it less painful to the tech companies.
For now.
The EO was anyway always a 12 month one and would expire in a year. It was never permanent (likely to extend).
So next year, he makes it more stringent in order to wean off the tech companies completely. They are on notice right now to shape up and change their ways. So Trump and team quickly scaled it down and give them some months to make their alternate plans.

Now this is possible, though I don't know if it happened. This is just one explanation to the fiasco. And this is my hope, else we are screwed and our kids and grandkids are screwed even more. Time will tell.

Or maybe it's just my BAS acting up... Wait Till Next Year!

Increase the salary enough, and you will get citizens to apply for any job. This is akin to someone saying:

"I couldn't find any car dealers to sell me a car for my price, so I smuggled one over the border from Mexico."

You are in the job market to buy someone's time to perform a task. The task, location, and required qualifications determine the going rate. I do understand that government orgs don't allow you to use this kind of logic.

Nice.

Now no need to go to Harvard and Stanford for a medical degree and rack up a million dollars of debt. Just go to Siramakrishanpura Medical College in Tamlatora Chennai for peanuts, come to the US without any debt, charge low, undercut American doctors and put them out of business and deeper in debt.

American Boomer politicians have led this country to doom and continue to do so.

No idea the truth to it, but I saw someone say the reason there is a doctor shortage in the US right now isn't for lack of interest or skills. Rather the union (not sure which) pushed the government to reduce the number of medical schools and the number of residency spots. So like everything the government does, they made it way too difficult for an "industry" to survive domestically without help from foreign businesses & workers.

I just wish, for once, someone with enough sway in the government would actually do root cause analysis on all of our issues and fix THAT. How many issues could we resolve that way? Healthcare costs, doctor shortages, domestic manufacturing....the list is endless.
