$500B is amazing. And he is just 54 or so. 20 years ago, we were amazed when we heard of Bill Gates crossing $100B but now there are so many above that threshold. By the time Musk reaches 80, he will be a many TRILLIONS worth. Mind-boggling numbers.

The lesson for the rest of us is there is no wealth to be made in today's America by staying an employee. Either start your own business and be successful or become a successful investor. It is much easier to become a good investor. Do something, don't just assume that your employer or manager will take care of you.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/musk-becomes-first-person-hit-222331321.html

Quote:

(Reuters) -Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk on Wednesday became the first person ever to achieve a net worth of nearly $500 billion, propelled by a rebound in the EV company's shares and surging valuations of the tech entrepreneur's other startups this year.

Tesla stock rose more than 1% in premarket trading on Thursday.

His net worth stood at $500.1 billion as of 4:15 p.m. E.T., according to Forbes' billionaires index.
Musk's fortunes are tied closely to Tesla, where he held a more than 12.4% stake as of September 15. The stock has risen more than 14% so far this year and closed 3.3% higher on Wednesday, adding more than $6 billion to Musk's net worth.

After a turbulent start to the year, Tesla shares have trended higher as investor sentiment improved on Musk bringing his focus back to his companies. Tesla board chair Robyn Denholm said last month Musk was back "front and center" at the company after several months at the White House.
Just days later, Musk disclosed his purchase of about $1 billion worth of the shares in a huge vote of confidence for the future of Tesla as it races to transition from an automaker to an AI and robotics powerhouse.

Not just Elon, anyone. My interests are business, technology and related things so I post more on those. I don't care about abortion or guns so I never post on those.

Go to finance.yahoo.com and you will get the business headlines.

No one has been worth 1T in history.

The 1T you heard was about Apple or Microsoft or NVidia hitting that much in Market Cap. Now they are near 3T/4T levels.

That was the incentive pay package Musk received from the board of Tesla if he reaches certain aggressive milestones with Tesla.

  • Requirements:
To receive the full payout, Musk must achieve several audacious operational goals, including:

    • Raising Tesla's market value to $8.5 trillion.
    • Deploying one million autonomous taxis.
    • Producing one million humanoid robots.
    • Achieving more than a 24-fold increase in Tesla's profit.

Insane goals, insane payout. Curious to see what kind of progress they've made since that announcement.

Payout is not really that insane if they hit the goals. It's all relative.

What are you talking about?

Democrats attempted to force feed EV's to the country, and failed. Auto companies virtue signaled and went hard on EVs and are backing off.

Entire country? Please.

Tesla is one part of his overall portfolio and I still don't think most people understand what Tesla really is.

For genpop, it's a robot, autonomous driving, and AI company. It's not a car company.

Elon explicitly lays this out in his recent strategy document that he does every few years.

I would also like to point out that the libs on this board told us that Twitter would die because Elon took over and Tesla was done when DOGE was created. Elon was going to lose all of his wealth and bunch of other utterly stupid takes not based in reality but in childish, leftist, dogma. LMAO.

My experience too.

Was planning to test drive a Mustang GT. Stopped by the Tesla dealership first.
I was sold in 5 minutes of driving it.
Teslas are freaking amazing to drive.
Do yourself a favor, and test drive one next time you are in the market for a vehicle.

Non ICE cars didn't really take off until Tesla.
Before Tesla, all the non-ice cars were ugly.

And yes, looks do matter.

A coworker's husband has one of the first cybertrucks, both of his kids drive Tesla cars, and my coworker is looking at getting a Tesla S next month.

Once they drove Teslas they never looked at any other vehicles.

Yes, while I am a good investor, but I have no ideas about starting a business. I want to do that.
Maybe I should start a thread in the business board so see what folks have done. Something may be applicable to me and something I can look into.

Interesting. I just got my wife an Audi. It is amazing. Now I want to try a Tesla.

I just hate the look of Teslas. I am a traditionalist, I love the look of the 1920s cars for example. I believe 80s and onward car design has generally been bad.

I think there's a far more important lesson than working for yourself so you can be obscenely wealthy.

How about doing something you're passionate about. How about wealth is important, but not the measuring stick to one's importance or value to society. How about just being a good person……..you know……..Christ like.

Seems to me the values we place in highest esteem are really more about greed and narcissism.
