Slow moving, massive Cat 5 direct impact with rotation pushing storm surge into populated areas. Likely the worst storm to make impact there in recorded history. 50+ inches of rain expected along with 175mph winds. Loss of life is expected to be significant and property damage will be catastrophic.

From a political standpoint China is likely eying this as an opportunity for more influence in the region as the US cuts back foreign aid.

Guantanamo Bay in Cuba also in the path for bad storm surge as it passes over Cuba tomorrow.

The USAF's TEAL76 flight measured wind at 240mph at 1000 feet. (This is normal in hurricanes; the higher the altitude, the higher the wind speed.)

The NOAA's P-3 flight had to be aborted becase the turbulence was more than the aircraft could safely handle.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

What's more likely, and consistent with this admin, is that there will be plenty of support as there has been concerted effort to reinforce the US' position in the western hemisphere.

Yeah, I'd imagine we'd pour on the aid for an actual emergency like this and not just some schmo lib trying to give eleventy million dollars for trans surgeries in tribal areas of Ghana.

I hope so. China already has spy stations in Cuba and is cozying up to Colombia and others in the region. This is prime for a belt and road debt trap scheme.

China has a huge advantage in power generation equipment (like transformers) production and we are already backordered on a lot of things for the AI power build out. China is likely in a better position to help with power projects there than we are.

The problem is, this is a real disaster in the making. A true emergency need is very likely. There will be a ton of money needed in aid and recovery………… However, the governments of the nations involved in this are among the most corrupt making it a virtual lock to be a complete waste of money. Overall, a very sad and concerning situation.

No doubt the US will help.

Hopefully the UK will as well given Jamaica is still part of the Commonwealth.

And no doubt China will try to exploit it; like they do everything else.

Would not be surprised if Cuba and Maduro tries to exploit it as well.

They are? Didn't know that. I have been going to Jamaica since 1981 and the locals never really liked anything British, including things such as Guinness.

I'd give them a pass on that. Drinking Guinness in that climate just seems wrong. It's funny, I absolutely love rum drinks when I'm in the Caribbean, but never think of them when I'm back in TX.

It is no longer funny or amusing that someone spouts off a negative expectation with no real examples of claim.

The USA will lead the charge and get more help then all other countries will give…..and the MSM will want to talk about the Epstein files.

Well, my first time there was in 1981 and there were Guinness billboards everywhere. When my BF at the time tried to order a Guinness at our hotel bar, he got a tongue lashing for even asking for one.

Teal74 departed Curacao (at least 3 WC-130s based there now) so we should get new data in a few hours.

(My finger bumped to the wrong emoji when I clicked to save.)

Storm is still jogging a bit to the west. It looks like Kingston will avoid the worst of the wind but will still get heavy storm surge. It looks like the eye wall is going to hit somewhere near Montego.

Isn't Montego Bay on the north side of Jamaica? The south side will be hit first? Confused.

ETA: They missed the eye. NW quad measured 170mph, SE quad was 150 mph.

Yes you're right I did not word that very well. Landfall will be near Treasure Beach. Looks like Montego coukd get hit by the eye wall on the exit which will hopefully be a bit weakened. Still likely to be high category 4.
