My take is that Cheney and his ilk considered themselves kingmakers. When Trump showed the way without the Cheneys, the Cheneys took it personally. So did a lot of establishment Republicans.

That's true, but it's true for all of them. Trump was a pro choice Democrat right until he decided he wanted to run for president and determined he had a better chance with Republicans.

I disagree with this being a good thing, but I appreciate you being honest enough to admit it, rather than the gaslighting stance that most here take. There are plenty of conservatives that are now branded liberals whose views haven't shifted at all, myself and the Cheneys included.
