This was a 30 point flip between Trump's second election and now. That margin is indicative of a lot more than "only hard-core Dems were motivated". It's a sign of large-scale voter discontent. If this doesn't scare the crap out of the Republican leadership, they're not paying attention.
establishment Rs are probably well aware of this and grumbling about it privately. the trump admin on the other hand (who are the de facto leaders of the GOP) have built a north-korea-esque information bubble around him where nothing but adoration and brown-nosing gets through.
if they lose big in November, count on them to blame anything and anyone but themselves.
Who knew the "party of small government" putting storm troopers on the streets and torching the Constitution wasn't a winning strategy?
And here's the funny thing. You libs think this is a direct reflection of Trump's policies. It's lunacy to think this is anything other than a very unique election where the GOP split the ticket. And I say this as someone who thinks the dems take back the house in November.
Oh, Democrats are crystal clear eyed that the midterms will be brutal and we cannot take anything for granted whatsoever.
And the split ticket absolutely was a contributor.
But if Star Wars taught us anything, is it "Rebellions are built on hope".
A swing like this helps give hope.
