This was a 30 point flip between Trump's second election and now. That margin is indicative of a lot more than "only hard-core Dems were motivated". It's a sign of large-scale voter discontent. If this doesn't scare the crap out of the Republican leadership, they're not paying attention.

establishment Rs are probably well aware of this and grumbling about it privately. the trump admin on the other hand (who are the de facto leaders of the GOP) have built a north-korea-esque information bubble around him where nothing but adoration and brown-nosing gets through.

if they lose big in November, count on them to blame anything and anyone but themselves.

Who knew the "party of small government" putting storm troopers on the streets and torching the Constitution wasn't a winning strategy?

And here's the funny thing. You libs think this is a direct reflection of Trump's policies. It's lunacy to think this is anything other than a very unique election where the GOP split the ticket. And I say this as someone who thinks the dems take back the house in November.

Oh, Democrats are crystal clear eyed that the midterms will be brutal and we cannot take anything for granted whatsoever.

And the split ticket absolutely was a contributor.

But if Star Wars taught us anything, is it "Rebellions are built on hope".

A swing like this helps give hope.

Love how she blamed this loss on the voters instead of acknowledging why nobody showed up to vote for her.

Been saying it. Republicans are getting to get absolutely destroyed at the ballot box this midterms.

It would be a shame if something happened to all those previously deep red districts that redistricting diluted to "gain 5 seats elsewhere". A crying shame.

GOP should win this one easily. Probably by double digits. Super embarrassing if this ended up
As a DEM win. That won't happen of course.

This aged well.

Now comes the mental gymnastics about how this massive swing means anything other than Trump is wildly unpopular and is torching the GOP.

Wanna bet $1000 it's a gop win for SD9 in November?

I voted for the Republican, even though I was a Huffman voter. Because I would never vote for a democrat.

This is what has to be done every time. Even the worst republicans is better than a democrat.

Unfortunately, the others didn't follow your lead.

I literally live in the area. there were no ads...no signage and nothing done by the reps in the area. the only ads I saw were the dem ads. and shockingly they all were misrepresentations of their candidate's beliefs and intent. so yall crow all you want. But a special election as senn numerous times in other states does not really move the needle.

I too live in this area….Yes I am old and yes it is freezing cold , but I truely didn't realize there was a special election. Probably the fact that my husband has spent about a month in the hospital between December and January, and he is in severe heart failure in spite of being in excellent health this past year contributed to my lack of knowledge of the vote. I always make a sincere effort to vote, and especially since I am Republican and do not want to see this area go Democrat. I will be voting in the general election for sure.

I confess utter surprise. My next prediction: the GOP will dramatically increase its margins in the House and Senate.

I hope Democrat Taylor Rehmet's huge upset of Republican Leigh Wambsganss is a wakeup call for Republicans in Tarrant County, Texas, and the nation. We must keep Texas red in the Gubernatorial and Senate elections this November by encouraging early voting turnout.

Nope. Not when "Red" = MAGA.

That's what we are voting against.

Please stop pretending to be a "Reagan republican". You support no traditional republican policy based on post history. And there's zero chance any traditional republican would be able to support Talarico.

You aren't voting against "maga". You are voting FOR liberal policy and you always have.
