A lot of overreaction in this thread to Dem candidates winning in blue states.

Yawn.

Some GOTV learnings in Virginia for R's to apply to the midterms. That's a lesson learned. But any prognostications about how this is a massive rejection of R's is simply a bunch of garbage. The socialist winning the mayor's race in NYC is actually very good for R's. I hope the media runs endless stories of his agenda in the coming months.
last night didn't tell us anything about each party's view of their prospects for 2026 that we couldn't already infer from the gop's recent scramble to draw up more house seats. all signs pointed to dem overperformance last night, which is what happened.

You might be right, the craziest thing may be that Trump continues to live rent free in liberal heads.

People voted for Trump because he said he would make stuff cheaper.

A lot of those same people voted for democrats (or stayed home) because stuff isn't cheaper.

The republicans thought they won last time because people rejected all the crazy democrat social crap. But that was a misread of what happened. People voted against democrats because they decided that the Dems focused on crazy **** INSTEAD of focusing on the economy. And now it looks like the republicans have spent a year focusing on stuff other than the economy.
it defies explanation that trump and republicans got the trifecta on the back of voters wanting relief from an affordability crisis, and their signature economic policy (which they're extremely proud of) was to make things even more expensive via tariffs. completely detached from their own voters.

I was not a proponent of Trump's May Tariff Everything and Everyone plan, but Tariffs haven't had nearly the impact as people think they have. They have largely not trickled down to consumers: https://www.wsj.com/economy/trade/trump-tariffs-us-economy-impact-89a1ea8d?st=9nknVJ&reflink=article_copyURL_share

And until we can reverse all of the spending added to the bottom line over the last five years, which neither party plans to fix, then we aren't fixing the overall affordability crisis. So what you will have happen is what is happening here - whichever party is in power will be punished at the time of an election. That reality of how people vote has been around long before our current issue at hand, as well. Voters are mostly fickle morons (especially on the left) that do not understand how things actually work.

Unattractive black women have trouble winning elections. Truthfully there was no surprises from the election. Cali dems won, no surprise, socialest dems in ny win no surprise, dem new jersey stays blue, racist dems in virginia pick dem.

Tend to agree. But there were other wrinkles. What about the Mississippi legislature elections? (Dems broke control, and gained seats) Do people know of other such setbacks?
