We purchased our first home for $117k in 2002. Was small but it was brand spanking new. Wife stayed home and took care of our new baby boy. I was making about $45k annually and never felt squeezed. We had to be frugal but it was not stressful.

There are Chevy pick-ups that cost more than that sitting on the lot right now. My oldest (24 y/o with solid job) pays twice what we payed on our mortgage for a less than desireable 700 sq/ft apartment.

It is not hard to see why young people fall victim to the flirtacious lashes of Hope.

I thought the magic dirt of America would ensure that these "natural conservatives" from the third world would vote for American values. Or so we've been told for years by the pro immigration GOP.

The "magic dirt" you refer to is what used to be known as the melting pot outlook, the idea that American ideals and practices can be adopted by anyone that is above a half-wit and open to learning it. With no real ceilings on opportunity in theory.

It did work for a considerable time, probably up to this Hart-Cellar act of the LBJ era (ruinous in so many ways) that the dissident right has underscored.

But it no longer does, not least because the cultural traitors that apparently now dominate education and media no longer teach American Exceptionalism, or the path of how the country came to be, always reforming itself, and instead today's worthless crop seeks to lock it in everlasting guilt for a specific set of decades in time.

So unless those two institutions are massively and quickly rebooted, we need to halt immigration for a time and get our bearings back in order.

Probably too late for enough of the country to wise up to the fact that immigration since 1970 has not been a good thing for this country. At all.

I say this as someone with Asian in-laws who came here in the late 1970's to finish their advanced degrees in Lubbock, and a wife and child as a result, who I would both die and kill for. You are not wrong. There are many exceptions, like these good people in my family, who pay their taxes, assimilated, and never asked for a single thing...in fact, they are Catholic and GIVE on top of paying taxes. They have always bent over backwards to be super respectful and appreciative of American culture and norms.

But unfortunately, far too many are not like them. You are right...our immigration policies, even with legal immigration, since the 1970's are largely what got us here.

I still maintain tho, that white liberal women 18-45, are by far the greatest threat to western civilization. If they weren't absolute psychotic idiots, hellbent on showcasing their fake hyper-empathy for virtue signaling for hollow soul satisfying purposes, we aren't even having this discussion. But you are not wrong.

These white lib women were caged in and could cause little damage earlier. With social media their bull crap is spread everywhere and is ruining other countries also.

There is a YUGE difference between moronic Momdani and the Indian military chick you whined about. Speaking of "dunderheadedness".

No, there is not. This is where it starts. The military chick could be a foreign agent. What if Mohammed from Pakistan became the Chief of Army Staff of the US Army? The military chick by herself seems harmless, but I think Mohammad is just 1 trip to Arabia away from going nuts and jihadi on everyone.

Only we are stupid enough to outsource everything and think we are being clever.

PS: Looks like you are the new grammar Nazi here, I know very well that "dunderheadness" is not a word, I was just using it loosely. Don't hate me.

This is interesting but I would flip your progression with the bold. The collectivism and purging began in the young USSR and early middle age one. They all but led with the bold, especially after the royal family was murdered and the Russian Civil War went on. It is the older USSR that vaguely started to mellow even as it was also collapsing. The "restructuring" was genuine, it just failed, or was outrun by events.

Now to your forecast --- I think lasting till 2150 is waaay too bold. We won't have reason to stay together in less than two generations unless there is a really strong reset from the top and a complete makeover of academia and media. Its still in suspense where 44 BC. or 440 AD is where we are at in the big power cycle, but with one major exception most indicators point to 440s AD -- Later Rome, as you also say "latter stages".

The big exception? The run away Progressive socialism drive now mixed with Islamist ---- this has our near future looking like almost totally non-taught in schools 1940s-50's China. Maos era.

So what hoping for is we have a breakup like the Roman Empire where a portion preserving its achievements survives as as super-Singapore business friendly to have the sheer prowess and grit to endure on its own for many more decades.

I'm reading this without looking at who posted it and I tell myself, "That sounds like Titan.", and sure enough, it is.

I do agree, that a huge component of legal immigration should have been understanding the Bill of Rights, capitalism and what it means to be American.

When you are at the ultimate impasse and no debate or conversation is even feasible.

In order to avoid eventual violence on a massive scale, we need to seriously start pushing to peacefully break up the union. Large organizations have to restructure all the time. Why can't a rapidly decaying country comprised of two very large groups of people who despise each other?

Because there's no realistic way to cut the baby in two ala King Solomon. You can't let Austin, San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas join USA-D and put the rest of Texas into USA-R.

You could still have a coalition of majority conservative states who aren't nearly as far down the road to ruin as the blue ones...even if they have blue urban centers. And many liberals would actually self-migrate if we were to actually bust up the union, imo.

I mean no disrespect whatsoever, and you are one of my fav posters, and my wife is brown...BUT...i like to think any Indian or East Asian person could relate to me if they grew up in a city that looked one way demographically...and saw it change dramatically over the course of a few decades...into a completely different looking place. I texted my buddies this on the way to work, stuck in 610 traffic the other morning. I was looking around and just noticed everyone around me was brown (black, latino or Asian). I then counted cars until I saw one with a white person and I think I remember it being like 12 or 13. That is CRAZY.

Like, why do I have to look around on the clogged freeways and hardly see any fellow white people and be happy about that? Would Koreans be "racist" or "intolerant" if they did not want to become minority Asians in Seoul? Why is it "bad" to prefer the way the things were before. When we all had more in common and there weren't all of these cultural and language barriers?

It may seem petty, but I am sure plenty of Indians in Mumbai would vent if, over the course of 20 years, they started to become a tiny minority and fewer and fewer people spoke the native language or wanted to assimilate.

It is sad that many on this board either hate America or are self-loathing.

I am shocked that so many are okay with foreigners flooding into our armed forces. What if a Muslim from Arabia became General?

#1 - officers have to be US citizens so they wouldn't be a "foreigner"
#2 - all general officer promotions have to be confirmed by Congress. I don't think Congress would confirm an officer like that today but who knows in 10-20 years.

Trump and the Senate need to purge, and effectively promote, the field officer corps over the next 3 years. Today's majors and lt colonels are going to be the general officers in 10-15 years.
