Quote:

The federal offices are back open and hundreds of thousands of federal workers have returned to work after the longest shutdown in history. But nothing is back to normal - federal workers say morale and trust in leadership are at an all-time low, tensions are high between furloughed staff and those who worked through the shutdown, schedules are slipping and projects are being pushed back, and more people are accelerating their retirement plans or leaving federal service altogether.

The recent shutdown, however, has just exacerbated the existing problems and added to what federal workers described as an already extremely trying year for the federal workforce.

"As if morale wasn't already non-existent, it sure is now. I expect a surge of people to (quiet) quit and I expect the remaining players to be bombarded with work with no support or guidance from leadership," one employee told Federal News Network. "The mission is dead. Operations are barely running. Morale is toast," another federal worker said.

Hope they all quit. Not wishing ill on anyone but when I was a kid government jobs meant lower pay and were usually temporary until something better opened up in the private sector. They certainly weren't jobs you could go into the office once or twice a week and still draw a huge salary and benefits.

Surveys show most of these people vote Democrat. And why do their positions need unions?

We got along just fine without most of them during the Democrat Shutdown. We can keep getting along without them just fine.

Cut, cut some more and then keep cutting. One of, if not the biggest problems in our country is the massive over reach of the Federal govt and the accompanying bloated permanent unelected bureaucrats.

So 1/3 of them were required to come in and work day in and day out without pay knowing that 2/3 were sitting at home on a 43 day long vacation. All of whom would receive the exact same back pay within a few days of it all ending.

That sounds like a recipe for excellent morale.

Want to experience low morale. Come work in law enforcement in a blue city/blue county.

Only reason I'm hanging on because of the pension and hell of medical benefits for my wife and I.

Until they quit (hint: they won't), I just have to say, "Welcome to the party."

But, again, they'll complain, but that have fed jobs, which means they make more than their state counterparts, which means they make close to, or at, whatever private sector equivalent job they have. Plus benefits most only dream off.

They can suck it for all i care.

I'm guessing that for many of the larger municipal departments they have their own retirement/pension system and there is limited transferability from one system, be it another large city or one of the smaller departments that use a shared statewide system. Even in the smaller departments, you're essentially just moving to a different deck chair on the Titanic.

Most of the large and medium size counties use TCDRS for their retirement. 7% of the check goes into the pension before taxes and the county will match 225% for every dollar the person puts in. On average, someone with 30 years of service no promotions and no overtime is walking away with a million plus on retirement.

Now, work overtime, promote, then that million can turn to 2 or 3 million. Not a bad deal for putting up with the bulls***. It's just the bulls*** is becoming unbearable and makes matters worse when officers hands are tied.

Trump's purpose from the beginning of this term was to get as many as they can out and into the private sector where they will have to be productive instead of sitting around picking their noses all day !

LOL, they just called in sick. Did you see the airport lines? Oh, and they will get paid. So, not without pay. With deferred pay. Big difference.

My morale falls when my paid vacation ends too. The difference is that I perk up again, and that I actually make money for my employer, so they continue giving me all this vacation.

So use up your limited sick time or work for deferred dollars that others will get for doing nothing?

Yup, sounds like a fantastic way to improve the morale of the IMPORTANT employees.

I was, and went to work in the office every day. But I also understood that not everyone was comfortable with that. It should have been up to each business owner how they protected their employees and their customers.

After 28 years in uniform and 10 years as an AF civilan, this is exactly my response to these weaklings. You still have a job, you are still paid, you got back pay for your free vacation and if you worked, you worked as you would have with the benefit of knowing you are important enough to be retained.
