I not sure "Yes we took away your healthcare but it's all Obama's fault" will resonate well with voters in 2026.

No one took away anyone's healthcare. The ACA is still there but the Covid subsidy is expiring. But I don't expect leftists like you care when the politicians you vote for lie to the country to make political hay. The ACA is the left's invention and was solely voted into existence by the left and it was designed to spiral into never ending cost increases ultimately failing and paving the way for single payer. How is it "affordable care" when it requires billions in subsidies to keep costs down? Its working exactly as intended.

You are literally the only small businessperson I have ever heard say coverage was better pre-ACA.

I must be the 'only' one you've talked to then. (just ribbing)

In all seriousness though...I cannot imagine any small business owner, who paid for healthcare for their employees, saying it's better now. I would like to have a conversation with them. Because we used to have hundreds of options, now we have a few. I dont know what small business owner would say less financial options is better.

It's also why I question that data. I don't know what they're comparing, since it's an Apples/Oranges comparison.

The average voter's understanding, as always, will extend no deeper than talking points and slogans.

It truly doesn't matter how the (R)s play the game within the capital. What matters is that they hammer home that runaway costs are a function of Obamacare in its true form. Beyond the blame game, they should also be ready to ride a backlash to actual repeal. And they need to be unified and ready to act: they'll sink themselves if they message effectively and then shoot themselves in the foot at the 11th hour McCain-style.

This was a stupid band-aid rip that is going to cost the GOP a lot of votes. The system put in was bad, but this is not the way to unwind it

Those people weren't on ACA anyway. There are a lot of R votes in swing states from middle class folks stuck playing the ACA game.

Unfortunately though, no one, on either side, has found a good way to unwind it.

And while I realize everyone wants their side to win every election, in reality, Trump is a lame-duck President. Also consider that you typically you see a rubber-band effect with mid term elections....this year time will be no different, and they know that. It's why they wanted the BBB and other measures in place the first two years.

Is there a better time?

So why do they need handouts?

Yes it is the way to unwind it. A subsidy that was added to help people who were laid off due to COVID surely can be allowed to expire four years post Covid.

Because ACA has destroyed other options and making something that costs $25k cost $12k isn't exactly a hand-out. It's an inflated garbage price from the outset.

So your problem is with the ACA. Agreed it should be and needs to be completely repealed.

Thank God for outfits like Medishare. Those who need it can get coverage comparable to ACA for about $350/month.

Yes. But for now, they have created a pile of **** and said pile of **** remains. All they've done is keep it as expensive of a pile of **** as possible for those that are trying to play the game, pay for insurance, and keep their family insured. This isn't a step to unwinding anything.

Is there a better time?
A. Dems pass a bill with zero (R) support.
B. Years pass.
C. Program breaks as (R)'s said it would.
D. (D)'s squeal that (R) partisanship is at fault
E. Cowardly (R)s scramble to save the program they all opposed a few years back.
F. The resulting debauchery is now seen as jointly owned.

I'll tired of the cycle. There's no good time to take the blame, but it's NEVER the right time to take ownership of a Dem debacle.
AgGrad99

Agreed.

But in reality, Dems will never fix or end it. And if it's done during an R administration it will never be seen as anything else. So where does that leave us?

I don't think the solution is to keep letting the train get further and further down the tracks.

Small business owner year. Much better prior to HCA. We paid 100% for employees then. Don't now.

We still do *gulp*...but now, employee coverage only (we used to pay for spouses/family coverage as well).

We let their crap fail and repeal it.

Of course, when I use "we" the implication is congress (R)s are on the same team as their voters, which I understand is quite naive.

no, you change some of the requirements that drive these plans to be ridiculously expensive. You do it together. This is just leaving folks with a pile of expensive dog****

Why fix the Dems mess? They had 2 years with Biden and Pelosi to fix it. Only the GOP can fix things, I guess

From some of the posts on here, as well as what's being said on social media, you may want to add raza, trailer/country folk accents to your post as well.

Oh and throw in working blue collar too, seeing as how it ain't just one type of people who are going to be asking who's going to pay for them and their babies.

Republican's are just politically stupid. You can't fix things without power. You can't stay in power by increasing premiums by a factor of 2 or 3 for millions.

You have to make big changes and this will take time. Shoulda started a long time ago, but it is what it is. So while you are making these adjustments, you are going to need to continue to subsidize the broken system for a while. Do that in exchange for making changes that you need, or at least for changes that get us started.

This isn't going to work. We can't afford for Dems to be in power, but that's what we are going to get.
