The evening news showed Abbott taking credit for the new plant being built. It would not have even started if not for funding from the Biden Administration under the CHIPS and Science Act. Once finished 2,000 tech jobs will be employed with thousands more to come in the next two additions.

don't these take many many years to plan and build; in other words it was likely in process way before anything dysfunctional Biden did

Politicians taking credit for things they had between nothing and the bare minimum to do with will never change.

One of the few good bils passed during his term and it was bipartisan.

If Trump signed the exact same bill 95% of this board would be on their needs praising him to the heavens and the leftists would be calling it a failure.

This project has been years in the making.

It took 3.5 years to transform the empty plot of land in Sherman, located about 60 miles north of Dallas, into TI's new

So... Trump?

BS, building it the easy part. Try operating it for 5, 10, or 20 years. They are expensive

The CHIPS as has been a failure, too many DEI hoops to jump through to get the money.

Its not good, it has been a failure by any measure if your in the know, which I am.

Agree on the implementation. The bill required some pretty insane parameters of construction including a certain percentage of female construction workers and engineers, minority business involvement mandates, child care, etc. If I'm not mistaken a lot of that has been eliminated.

Trump would never sign it because 100% of the Dems would have kept it from ever getting to him..........you know, because Trump.

Show me any way in the world that would not happen.

And?!

That has nothing to do with the chips money initiating this. It covers about 3% of the capex and could be much lower. So you're telling me they would not have broken ground without that 3%?!

Not believable.

I know many TIers, many whom work in Sherman. The CHIPS Act was very important to TI to spur investment in a new Sherman plant. The new Sherman facility will focus on supplying chips to Nvadia. There will be over 80 TI chips on a single Nvadia server blade (depends on the server, but 80 is the minimum).

I'm tired of being Nvadia'd. We need less Nvaders, not more.

It's disgusting that the federal government requires discrimination in their contracts.

For all the bone-headed stuff that Trump does at times, I'm still happy as hell that Biden and Kamala aren't anywhere near the White House.

The TI facility broke ground in May 2022.

The Chips and Science Act wasn't even signed by the autopen until August of that year.

Texas Instruments got CHIPS Act funding in 2024

CHIPS act passed in 2022

The plant started construction in 2022

TI started negotiating incentives with the state and local jurisdictions in 2018 ish

They would have started planning for this generation of chips 10-15 years ago

TI has been talking about upgrading/replacing the plant in Sherman since the late 90's. TI has had a plant in Sherman since the late 60's

The Chips act was a handout that had very little to do with getting this project off the ground

The state incentives helped get the plant in Texas vs other states or overseas

Some of you need to have a greater understanding of site selection. That doesn't occur in a couple of years for a footprint of this size. This has been in the works for quite some time as pointed out above.

You are correct that TI had started plans for a new facility earlier, but the CHIPS Act spurred TI to act on those plans. It also spurred TI to invest in its Lehi, UT facility. The old TI plant in Sherman was either sold or leased to another company before TI broke ground on the new facility.

I'm in the industry. A new semiconductor fab is $17b minimum. The $50B CHIPs act was a slush fund. TI was going to do this anyway. Samsung in Taylor, Intel in Ohio, Microchip in Phoenix, all were going to happen anyways. Political BS.

Second question.

When they are disposed of, how long will it take the conductors to decompose?

Unless you're Elon and said "F it I'm moving sh** to Texas" and literally did. The Giga was operational one year from ground breaking during Covid.

I agree with you for the most part. But if a state is red and ready they will accommodate.

And many companies that got CHIPS money later went bankrupt. In fact Wolfspeed just went through bankruptcy, and they are still getting another $700 million.

So Abbott has been governor for roughly a decade and you think he had nothing to do with the new TI plant? Interesting how the liberal mind works, or maybe doesn't work.

I'm late to the thread, but this is 100% true.

Same thing applies to all the "green energy" credits in the Inflation Reduction Act (LOL).

The amount of Communist wish list items forced into the bills made them absolutely useless to companies. The potential money gained through the bills were more than offset by all the stupid requirements that had absolutely nothing to do with actually building or operating the facilities.
