This statement alone shows that people don't understand how EMS and Fire Supression have changed in the last 20 years.Yeah and I suppose Maui and LA fires didn't happen either.

You didn't address the previous post pointing out that nearly all Fire departments are fire AND EMS services.

I rode truck for 12 years, and our guys were fire and EMT's.

you found out if you were on truck, engine, or ambo before your shift.

Most depts are run this way

Within the last 20 years most places that are staying with the times so to say have either 100% paramedics or require it to promote. Like it or not the fire service is at least 70% EMS. Fire departments are an EMS service that happens to own fire trucks, not the other way around.

WRONG! EMTs are wienies. They could never be firefighters at a fire scene. Don't even have the equipment, basic stuff like turnouts, helmets with breathing apparatus. They don't respond with 60-70 pounds of protective equipment on them running up dozens of flights of stairs. Nor could they remotely drive most firetruck vehicles.

EMTs are not diving in to find floaters. Not doing high angle rescues. They are not dragging out crispy critters. Not bagging and tagging those until after the firefighters have done so.

When The Hubs first started, they had to wash out those body bags for reuse.

Most dangerous thing EMTs do are fly in helicopters on Starflights.

Besides making me cringe so hard it hurt to read this, this post demonstrates the ridiculous attitude that the fire service has worked so hard to get past.

Not sure that's the case in central Texas. For instance Williamson County runs EMS, and Round Rock has the Fire Department. Some of the Ambulances are based out of Fire Stations, but then again another is located in the Sheriff's substation on Old Settlers. I don't think EMS is handling Fires or SWAT calls here.

Also Round Rock FD has at least 1 Rescue maybe 2.

On the bright side, now that we all know her sexuality she is free to defeat Vecna.

And why would that be? LOL. Why would firefighters have to get "past" anything other DEI crap forced upon them?

They aren't. I really don't understand how sooo many posters here have zero clue of who does what and when.

Active crime scene? Both fire and EMS are held back until cops have secured the scene. Why? Because they are not armed and cannot defend themselves such as cops can.

And extending that, EMS is not complicating a fire scene because they don't have the turnouts and equipment to be there until victims are being pulled out, triaged and passed back to EMS.

In military terms, EMS is below in-the-rear-with-the-gear. They don't have the gear to be on the front line.

Nothing against EMS as they provide their service and it is needed. But their mission is not either law enforcement nor firefighting.

All depends on the municipality.

My dept stated split and then merged.

Round Rock FD is going to medical calls also, like most FDs in the state at least. They are cross trained as EMTs/medics and respond as such. They do not transport people to the ER, but the hold the same certification as the EMS providers do. They probably don't go to every low acuity call, but there are definitely hitting the true emergencies.

Today's fire service would be a shell of itself if EMS didn't make up a overwhelming majority of calls for fire departments. Fires are down because prevention education and building codes have made great strides. EMS makes up a bulk of the run numbers to keep FD funding flowing. Most departments are EMS departments that sometimes fight fire and do all the other cool stuff.

Looks like several commissioners over the years are not. Firefighters.

This board's favorite, Rudy Giuliani appointed 2, and one was not a firefighter. I'm guessing yall were equally outraged then.

I see you've pivoted from gaslighting us about the quality of this pick to whataboutisms. Glad we can all agree that this is an inferior DEI selection.

This appointment was to check boxes, nothing more. Female, check. Lesbian, check.

We see how well that kind of idiocy turned out in LA.
