This is where we are now. Liberals are electing socialists and communists in parts of the country. They aren't hiding it anymore. The democrats are embracing socialism and communism, yet "moderates" sit here and act like there is nothing to worry about.

Sanders - full blown communist - might have won the Dem nom against both Hillary and Biden if allowed to play out like it should have.

A national divorce is the only way now.

San Fran has swung back to the middle, comparatively speaking. Can't really hold them to same idiot standard as NYC anymore.

$122B and so much of the city is broken. I was there years ago and so many locals were complaining about the subway and how it was a disaster of lines being down due to delay maintenance.

Theyre running so deep in the red because they haven't been maintaining the infrastructure. They've been diverting funds to social programs and pet projects.

I would agree. Was there a few months ago. Walked around, went to a baseball game, etc. I see more homeless in Texas cities than I saw that day. Not sure where they put them all, but it was not what I expected.

Did a missions trip to Hawaii two summers ago. Worked with the homeless. 60-70% of them in the beach area we were working were from the mainland. California to be more precise. I think somewhat CA got a lot of 1-way tickets.

Their current mayor is a moderate by their standards. The locals finally revolted against the former Mayor's Marxist idiocy and elected a guy to bring back policing and relative sanity to the city. They are obviously still very much Democrats, but they are smart enough to stop doing the really stupid *****

Won't be able to do that in other left wing cities though. SFO is primarily a white and Asian city so they have demographic advantages that other bigger cities do not have.

He's contemplating a 10% increase in property taxes.

Just what does he think that will do to rents in NYC?

Moron.

He thinks he can freeze rents, increase property taxes and then the landlords eat it. But this is exactly how slums get created.

Well, if you want government to take over private property, a good way to do it is to have landlords get behind on their taxes. "You owe more in taxes than you can pay? Well, we have a plan for that ..."

It's really stupefying.

But I support the right of New Yorkers to elect and live under a socialist government.

This guy is such a joke. He's a child.

Of course, anyone with a functioning frontal cortex knew it, but damn. He ain't even 60 days in.

I'm really going to enjoy watching those whining morons in NYC cry for the next 4 years.

Of course, they are so stupid they may vote for more of the same next time because, "he just didn't do it right. He didn't do enough of it"

I don't think so.

every successful middle class to upper middle class will be thinking about moving out of NYC

and the "wealthy" are absolutely going to be moving out of NYC in the next 4 years.

Palantir just fled DENVER for Miami- you can bet that multi-millionaires are also going to be heading south to Fort Lauderdale.

It's amazing what people will learn if you let them get a taste of their poor choices. Another reason I'm a strong proponent of voting for your beliefs rather than settling in the hopes of avoiding the big bad opponents from gaining power. If your guy wins, excellent. If not, the big bad opponent gains power and causes all sorts of trouble that hopefully snaps their idiot voters back to reality.

The idiot leftists likely won't learn from their mistakes, but the complicit center/left voters might abandon ship.

Don't defund the police, just cut it to the bone so it is non-effective. Don't use that free subway or bus, danger lurks.

What could possibly go wrong?

These Marxist idiots haven't learned one thing about defunding police, even after watching the disaster after the George Floyd era.

Or maybe they have and are trying to overload/crater the system. Cloward-Piven strategy at work.

Maybe this is his plan, to wind up taking properties from broke owners to then run them as city housing?

Nah, I don't think the communists around him think that far ahead.

Yep, I think this is just the second part of their housing confiscation plan. It's straight up communist strategy.

1. Pass law forcing owners to sell to government.
2. Immediately raise costs forcing owners to sell to government.

I agree with your overall sentiment. But a lot of films are being produced and filmed outside of the traditional NY and LA studios. Atlanta (for example) has been an option for a lot of film productions over the last 5-10 years.

Not only Georgia, but Austin and Nashville too. A lot of actors are leaving CA and NY for Nashville these days.

That new law seems like a slam dunk infringement of the 4th Amendment but with our justice system today, I'm not sure it would turn out that way.

So no new hires...
Those that can take their retirement. Some early career guys that don't get promoted waive their years in service and start over somewhere else.
Plenty of others get hired elsewhere with their yard of service credited.

Complete department wide experience loss that takes decades to retrain. Family legacies break their lines and don't return to the city.

That's the way that works. Can't come back a few years from now claiming those unintended consequences.

HPD, Harris County Sheriff's, Montgomery Sheriff's and a few others have hired officers from New York. Stories I have heard, former NYPD officers have also gone to Florida, Tennessee and parts of Georgia. NY is about to FAFO and they don't even care.

Their loss, I enjoy working with the boys from New York. Taught this old head a few thing or two.
