Lots of good points on this thread regarding physician compensation and others who are drawn to this field. Its no secrete physician comp is dwindling, the classical conservative doc who treats all and doesnt care about their patients background and doesnt let them influence them, is in either a niche consultant field or a surgical subspecialty. So its unlikely many of you here will need their services, many often practice very little clinical medicine and supplement their work via expert witness work or industry (I know an interventional neuroradiologist who practices 4-5 times a month clinically, but he does 10-20 expert witness cases a month and makes 20-40k per case, met ortho and neurosurgeons doing this too). So what does this mean for you all? Well, medicine now will mostly attract the bledding hard politically driven people akin to teaching and other public service fields. I would argue this is bad- you want the guy who cares about money, because he understands his livelihood is dependent on not getting sued. And how do you not get sued? You do a great job and provide a great service. The empaths do not operate like this.

But compensation and costs in the medical field is so incredibly screwed up. Can't fix that here.

The real truth is the demand for health care workers is extremely high, the pay is competitive, and the job is very secure. The result is a term called "adverse selection". The medical field is attracting the same people as TSA, slugs, losers and HOES.
