Yup. Still some tells. But it's the best it's ever been. Give it a year and they'll eliminate even the smallest of tells.

There's already a ton of people that can't tell what's AI and what isn't. By the end of the year it will probably be 90%+ percent that can't tell.

I do wonder how long it's going to take for AI to make the right lip/face movements for sounds/words. As a lip reader I've seen AI get close but there's always tells, even in the Chinese videos they're not lining up right.

The issue is just like doctored photographs, for now.

If you look at the actual 0s and 1s, a specialist can point out real versus doctored photos. The people doctoring photos try to get more sophisticated, but the specialist get more sophisticated just as quickly.

I think we're within 10 years of a lot of video evidence being challenged in court, unless there is some sort of camera system developed that has embedded a way to guarantee all video captured/produced by it is legitimate.

But in the court of public opinion the first impression of the lie of an AI photo, audio, or video will do all of the damage necessary and desired. Once a first impression is made and people get outraged over an AI fake, it is nearly impossible to get them to see the fraud and admit they were duped.

I honestly believe that as AI gets better, there are going to be online services where you could upload a video and the service would use AI to determine if the video was real or not.

It could be a horse race to see who stays out in front, but, with the speed of AI advancement, even if you could fool the services for a little while with really well made fake AI, the video will be static, and the AI services would become complex enough that the video would eventually be identified as a fake.

I'm sorry, if you aren't already skeptical of anything you read, hear, or see on a screen or in a book then you've already been duped, likely for years if not your entire life. There is always and has always been another side to the story, another perspective, an alternative source, a conspiracy theory behind everything. Your grandparents went through this with the invention of the printing press, you or your parents went through through this with the internet, and your children will go through this with AI.

It seems AI would be used to explain away the sudden disappearance of all believers from the earth at the resurrection. A pretty convincing exposition will be presented, not that many non-believers would would need it.

Ray Kurzweil continues to be prophetic...

Anyone who wasn't scared sh&$less over a year ago by AI is pretty clueless.

Been saying it since the beginning. I also was duped and laughed at the misshapen hands and limbs blurring into the sidewalks. But I paid attention when that disappeared in less than a year. And quickly grew alarmed at the leaps and bounds it has grown since.

I have never seen such advancement so quickly in any field. I am not sure any human has. Even microchip tech which held that title previously. This laughs at Moore's Law. A very sizable chunk of this board continues to scoff at it and I can't help but think this is a massive mistake. I know what to look for and today's image and videos with the latest engines…I can sometimes guess correctly that they are generated. That's if I know to look in the first place.

This stuff legit scares the **** out of me. Because it forces me to question the truth of my eyes and ears.

Just think of where we will be in another two years. And we look at these examples here of entertainment but we all know it is just as applicable to be abused to bad actors and the outright crazy and those who simply want to see the world burn.

We were never going to be ready for this and I have never felt this bleak about anything ever in my life. I see absolutely no way this doesn't turn out horrendously awful in the long run. The amount of damage that WILL come from this technology will always overshadow whatever good may come from it.

I agree. It's got a lot of power and it should be curated with care. I too am alarmed at the exponential speed at which it improves. Considering it can improve without human interaction (or will shortly) it's even more alarming. Couple all of this with those that can control the media and where it is piped and an idea can be used to control anything you wish.

We already don't fact check things. The entire internet is happy to send half baked crap on to another user. Knowing you can synthesize media and messaging that cannot be easily verified as synthesized, to people who wouldn't care much to check it anyway….yeah, that ain't great.
