just as a couple weeks ago when they posted video of them "seizing" the MSC vessel, which was clearly staged

What am I missing with the Iranian story of seizing a Chinese tanker? I thought Iran wanted to export their oil. Desperately so. So what did this seizure accomplish? Is this just them puffing up their chest to try to prove they are still a fighting force?

Closest on political news is Instapundit.com. But for any random news story out there, it is hard to beat Texags.

It may have been mentioned earlier but they are still targeting the access to tunnels.

That makes for a message quagmire. Do Iran still have missiles and ability to make missiles? Well, in theory its right underneath their feet. In practice, it truly is beneath their feet. Ayatollah says we have what we need and we have to explain they cannot readily access it and we will smoke em if they do.

That latter part will feed in to a mischaracterized forever way.

Whenever a resolution is ultimately achieved, the spin game will explode in earnest.

Assuming this shows where Iran's fast-boats were intercepted, they likely traveled about 35-40 miles from a Qehsm island port. A quick hop at 60-70 mph. USN should enforce a 30 mph speed limit on all boats in the strait. Break the speed limit and you'll lose your driver's license,

Russia and China have been reported to be or will be sending weapons and war communications technology to Iran. To the military experts on here: can we impose a complete blockade, air, land, and sea, on Iran? We control the air. We control the strait. So, why not? No planes, military or civilian into or out of Iran. Bomb the highways and rail, and their bridges, into Iran. Inform Russia that any of their planes attempting to enter Iran will be warned, then shot down. I will hang up and listen.

No, we can't impose a complete blockade, and no, Russia and China won't be sending anything particularly useful anyway. China shipped some anti-ship missiles which failed evidently, and have provided solid rocket motor fuel chemicals (sodium perchlorate) but those shipments won't go through now. Not an 'expert' but that's my take.

Why did we not take these bases out during epic fury

I think there are a lot of targets left and we need to get after it sooner than later

Iran's borders are enormous, and encompass mountainous terrain we don't have access to. It's much larger than Texas. But with 90 million people, they need more than some smugglers to keep operations running.

But make no mistake, we've made no attempt and have no ability to 'completely' seal off their borders from air/land/sea traffic entirely. There's not much of a need to, to be fair. They require heavy industrial shipments via sea (in and out) to sustain their economy/IRGC, such as it is.

True, but I am talking about land arteries, not the mountains. They can't get equipment through those. And mountains have no bearing on preventing supply by air. You make good points though that bear on occupation.

They hid some weapons of held them back once they realized we were kicking their ass. Now they are deploying them sparingly when it is necessary to send a political message and grab some headlines. They have limited resources now so they are using their lower cost cheap drones and speedboats with apparently expendable small crews to try to do sttait interdiction and harrass their neighbors. They are hoping their propaganda campaign, playing on internal US divisions and international weakness and oil prices by threatening strait transits will result in concessions by Trump before they have too much internal pressure to subdue.


I'm going to imagine we have been working overtime on locating remaining hardline leadership and planning their demise by air strike. Also, starting a rolling destruction of military assets from the coast inwards would help open the strait the hard way. I imagine we've been refining our tactics out there to be more effective and efficient too.

I don't think we move until Trump gauges China. If they help us pressure Iran into accepting our terms, they get all the oil they want to buy. Seems like a better way to go for everyone. We shall see.

I agree with this. However, I wonder what "too much internal pressure" looks like for these people. They don't care about their general population it seems, and they aren't exactly worried about votes. Is there anything that matters to them more than their evil endeavors? I guess capital to pursue them!

At some point, broke and hungry people get desperate and angry.

I do seem to recall that Germans in the later part of WW2 endured considerable suffering and never really rebelled against the Nazis, but o don't believe they were anything like as hostile to the leadership as large elements of Iranians are. But the threat will have to be an internal power struggle in Iran as the factions there all see themselves suffering and weakening. I am not sure how long that takes.
