These are great!

We yelled "car" a bunch on my street.

Yelling "car" was one thing but we ran into the ditch when we heard the distinctive sound of the UPS truck.

I could be wrong but that sure looks like the TG&Y on West Ave in San Antonio. Great memories. Thanks Rocky.

Thanks for the walk down memory lane, my friend.

To being part of the last generation (X) to truly have lived in ways today's kids wouldn't understand, though would likely appreciate if given the chance.

I resemble that. My playground as a kid was a static display F-106 with the canopy glass breaking and Atlas missile nozzle molds which we would get in and rock and spin for hours.

Thanks Rocky! Every one of those is familiar, and there are too many favorites to say one is better than another.

The one about forcing us to come inside really hit home. Our Dad just whistled really loudly near nightfall, and you'd better be home within a minute or two, or else!

Oh yeah, anyone remember catching fireflies and putting them in a glass container with holes in the lid?

Another one was the cleaning of a scrape or strawberry with soap and hot water. My Dad, "Aw quit cryin', I haven't even touched you yet!"

Another great one compliments of my Mom (God rest her soul) when my brother and I were jumping our bikes off the driveway into the flooded ditch, "Watch out for the Water Moccasins!"

I could go on and on, but you covered quite a few already. Thanks again!

Been a regular FUNNIES reader for quite some time and never posted, HOWEVER, I had to say this may be my favorite ever. If that makes me old, so be it!

Blue star for you, Rocky. It's a great day's worth of funnies.
These hit pretty good.

What a great feeling it was when you timed it perfectly and got the music and not the DJ.

I spent so many hours going through the albums and 45s, and don't regret a moment of it.

This was all too "normal" on a rainy day, and in a car without AC.

Thanks a ton Rocky. This made me feel old but I laughed a lot while I enjoyed the trip down memory lane. There will be a record number of stolen memes sent to my kids, nieces and nephews.

Yep.

Possibly...not as a knock on previous episodes....but possibly the best Sunday posting by Rocky ever.

I don't know if it's because we were all young and carefree, but I don't remember politics being involved in so much of our lives back then. Even the adults in those days lived their lives relatively free from politics. Voting was the only political thing they did. Now, we as adults can't escape the encroachment of politics in everything we do, and I don't need to enumerate what that is. I really enjoy the Politics board but sometimes it can be overwhelming.

Those really were the good ol' days.
Elections are when people find out what politicians stand for, and politicians find out what people will fall for.

Our parents were Depression era and then WWII. They didn't play as much as children because there were chores and work to do to keep the family fed. Then the war years when they became young adults.

Should not be that surprising that they wanted their kids to be kids and have fun unlike their childhoods. Plus it was vicarious pleasure for parents to see their kids having fun. I know my Dad often played with us, whether just a game of catch, to volleyball, to water skiing, to riding minibikes to flying U-Controls or remote controlled planes and boats.

Still can remember the sounds and smells of those planes with balsa wood and paper with dope to seal them. Whine of that Cox 409 little engine in Dad's big vice grip mounted to his workbench in the garage and the smell of the fuel as he adjusted the carburetor from rich to lean. My brother leaning over his shoulder as Dad explained what he was doing and why. My Dad wasn't called "The Big Kid" for nothing. Was even his CB handle.

Lots of memories here. Add drinking from the water hose, bottle rockets from a coke bottle, Daisy BB guns, water balloon fights and losing teeth with a string and a doorknob. Classic Americana.
