Good, full funding or nothing. Thune pulled a McCain like he always does because he is a fake and is playing his part to be an R that opposes Trump.

But what does this mean? The Senate bill funded DHS through end of fiscal year. ICE and CBP were already funded.

I think there is much confusion on what full funding means and for how long based on realities of how the process works.

Johnson just concluded his presser. As suspected, he was on phone with Trump telling him about his plan before and receiving Trump's blessing.

Thune ****ed up it appears and tried to slip another past Mike Johnson. Mike threw the flag (probably the right move, it is opposite of what Fleischer wanted in his blurb). Kudlow is surprised and befuddled at Johnson and suspect of Thune.

tl;dr things are in flux on a Friday afternoon with folks dispersing around the Country; Trump will fund TSA via EO; money would be on this resolved some time Monday.

Edit to Add: Trump has signed the EO to pay TSA. And Mike Johnson is pissed AF at Senate.

So TSA is gonna get paid and everything for them, and travelers, is going back to normal finally?

I feel good about traveling to Montana for Easter on Friday. For Tuesday trip to Houston for meeting, I will fly JSX or drive.

Confirmed Trump EO is for back pay and to bring pay current. So it should rebound but maybe not overnight.

Good news. Perfect timing.

R's doing their best work to give the Dems full control of congress.

Honestly, between Iran and inflation and Now This u Forced error….makes me think twice about voting R in November. Probs won't vote at all but that's still a vote they're losing that they never had to work to get.

Un****ingbelievable how fast this congress **** the bed.

Republicans get nothing done when they have control. Hate the Ds all you want but they don't **** their own ass every chance they get.

so you want them to vote for an imperfect or flawed bill yet...since your feelings are hurt that the R's aren't doing exactly what you want, your idea is to help give Dems power??

That's weird. Because I read that Trump loved this senate bill, Johnson hated Trump and was trying to lose the House to get him impeached!

To be fair, with Trump all those realities could be true at the same time.

I think Thune either got duped or thought he could dupe Thune.

I would not want to be Thune or Cornyn for that matter. Has Trump picked between Cornyn and Paxton?

Cornyn has done himself no favors here as well.

Trump not officially picking anyone yet is a tacit pick of Paxton.

Didn't Trump sign an excutive order to pay them?

So they will get paid regardless

IDK why senate passed anything considering Trump's EO

Should have made the Dems look stupid and Trump the hero

Except EOs can't spend money that Congress has not approved
Maybe this is some convoluted plan to make Trump look good because he is the guy getting TSA paid

IMO both sides have sufficient talking points to blame the opposition People need to get paid I guess unanimous consent by the senate is not how Trump and MJ wanted this resolved

MJ still takes orders from Trump

Is that a bad thing?

Johnson would have dumb to take the **** sammich Schumer got Thune to serve the House.

Trump greenlit Johnson's move today. And thats a very good thing.

Didn't Trump say he's not signing anything until the Save America Act passes?

It doesn't really matter if he doesn't sign anything. Bills passed by congress become laws after 10 days if not signed.

The only way he stops it is with a veto and I don't think he wants to veto anything right now.

ICE is not funded. They are using the supplemental funds passed in the BBB to pay for ICE operations. Baseline ICE funding lapsed as part of the last CR expiration.

Senate republicans have a lot of explaining to do after they passed that Democrat piece of **** legislation on the middle of the night. Thankfully, Johnson stood up for America and put the brakes on.

We need to fund ICE 100% and enforce our laws. Democrats shouldn't be able to ignore the law for four years and then prevent removal of illegal refuse once they're out of power. Republicans need to be in front of the camera non-stop telling Americans what they're doing and why they're doing it.

I hope Thune is forced out.

Is it though? The Dems got nothing with this legislation. I still think there is much confusion on this.

Thune enjoys the Biden Kamala protection. The guy behind them is 10-20 times worse.

The guy next after Thune unless they skip him again is Cornyn.

I am on a mobile now, but if you list the Rs in senate based on how long they serve (sort of step 1 in leader selection), and I think we would all be disappointed as we went down that list.

Maybe there is a surprise on there, but not off the top of my head.

Went and grabbed the top 10. And you see our problem.

The next tier of R senators is not much better. Maybe Cruz, Cotton, Mike Lee or Rob Johnson - assuming all those continue to be Senator.

Dems are looking at similar issues. But failure to put in effective Senate leadership is showing how disastrous that is when you have slim majorities.

And this is also a reason supporting Randi and Massie is myopically stoopid. It's not about principles when it's tight, it's about coalescing around the things that are most
Popular with the public in order to get agendas passed or protect passed agendas.

Nut up Rs.

Both sides are absolutely in the wrong here. I have no issue with funding ICE, but the idea that some public reforms may be necessary, if for nothing other than optics, is reasonable given the unfortunate events that led to the deaths of U.S. citizens on U.S. soil during interactions with federal law enforcement. For almost anyone outside of the far right, that is not something we should be comfortable with.

On TSA specifically, the government has mandated these security checks, and everyone who flies in the U.S. pays a fee on their tickets to fund them. The government did not stop collecting those fees during the shutdown. It only chose to withhold the payroll funding those fees were intended to support, while still expecting employees to show up to work.

When a $40,000 per year government employee does not have the financial cushion to absorb missing multiple paychecks and is forced to drive for Uber or DoorDash just to cover basic expenses, the system breaks down. The result is four hour security lines at one of the nation's busiest airports while both sides point fingers at each other.

If we are explicitly charging travelers for the cost of TSA, then the workers should be paid to deliver the service that the government has already collected fees for.
