This isn't exactly a new issue. I remember fellow students at A&M when I was there that made similarly stupid comments and frankly had no business being in college. The difference is we didn't have social media to document their stupidity.

Is it more now than when many of us were in college, maybe but I wouldn't bet my life on it.

It is more now because in many school districts the aim isn't to educate children… it's to create political activists that blindly vote for the Democrat party. And the most effective way to get someone voting Democrat is ensuring they are stupid.

Their vote counts just the same. This is a dream for the political class. Uneducated people are easier to control.

they are LITERALLY being interviewed on college campuses!

So when you were at A&M, you knew people who could not do basic math, or tell time?

Every time I see these videos, I want to know how many people gave the correct answers, but are not included in the videos because they don't fit the videos' purpose.

Correct, these videos (man in the street, Jay walking etc.) are not an accurate sampling of any given population.

These questions are phrased the way they are for a reason. We do this in sales a lot. We can nudge a person to give a 'free will' answer that is the answer we want by phrasing the question carefully and applying the right stressor to force the decision along. It's the same kind of deal here. These people would get a lot more of the questions correct if they stopped, processed the question, formed and answer, and then verbalized it. Generally, they have a crafted question with the stress of not being wrong, double down with a time constraint of dead air with the camera. It's pretty neat to watch. I'm not impressed that they got the answers wrong, I'm impressed by how they arrived at the answers they thought were right or close. Pretty fun time.

Take all of that, add some editing, and you can illustrate whatever result you want. The media does this all the time.

They all repeat the question because they cannot process it without hearing it again. And often need to hear the question multiple times. But seeing how they explain how they got to their incorrect answers shows a lack of common sense.

"phrased the way they are...."?!

You are so far off base it's not funny. I guess you didn't watch the video.

These are 3rd grade questions presented in a 3rd grade manner.

" In which country is the Panama Canal located?" That's akin to the old joke of "who is buried in Grant's Tomb?'

Uhmm? Went deep down this guy's rabbit hole of streams. Just now ran across this one. Long story short, he makes up incredibly stupid stuff that Kamala voters believe are her positions and they are clueless of anything about our Constitution and even who she is. (She's dumb enough that they believe those are her actual positions to repeal amendments of the Constitution.)

Sad.

So my question is, where the hell are the parents?

If my kids were so dumb, I would kick their asses.... and probably go jump into a a raging river from the shame.

-control of what people read and listen to take control of what children learn in school - Saul Alinsky
And now we have Islamic Terrorists in our educational system in addition to the standard corrupt Democratic Party leadership.
Slowly I believe more people are becoming aware of this insanity.
We really need to rewrite our laws concerning libel and slander.

You may be right but considering the current state of our educational system you may be wrong.
https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-clarity/202503/the-reading-crisis-in-college
quote from the article
-This decline in reading skills isn't just an academic issue; it has real-world implications. Students who struggle with reading often:

Have difficulty comprehending complex ideas in their chosen fields.
Struggle to communicate effectively in writing.
Miss out on the cognitive benefits of deep reading, such as improved empathy and critical thinking.
Face challenges in careers that require analysis of detailed reports or contracts

And this is just reading ability, bet math skills are worse.
We really need to rewrite our laws concerning libel and slander.

I think the underlying reason is that parents want to be "friends" of their kids. I've heard many parents say this both in person and online... "we are not like parent-child.... we are actually more like friends!".

That makes me bristle up.

I've told both my kids (one adult, the other almost adult), that I am NOT your friend. I am your father. You can have thousands of friends over your lifetime but ONLY ONE father. Once this father is gone, he is gone forever and you will never have another one.

I really don't care if that makes me "uncool" or whatever. Some of my friends who yearn to be friends of their kids raise their eyebrows when I say this when the topic comes up.

Parenting is hard and it is not a popularity contest. It might be pretty thankless... or maybe the kids will thank you when they are much older, not when they are kids. No guarantees, and that should be okay. A parent has to put his/her personal interest on the side and their kid's interest ahead. No ifs or buts.

The decline can be traced directly back to President Carter and the formation of the Department of Education in 1969 implemented in 1970.
