Well, 3 months ago the state shut down all distribution for a "two-week" inventory period. No distribution since.

Liquor stores have closed. Restaurants are dry. 174,000 CASES are sitting in a warehouse and no one has the gumption to get them to buyers.

Needless to say, this would not be happening if the distributor's jobs depended on doing getting stuff out the door. But they don't. They work for the state.

Mississippi has so many stupid problems. Just finished a year long project in Jackson - so happy to be done. It's the murder capital of the US (per capita) and feels 100% like it. First time in 30 year career I didn't venture out to explore the town I was in.

For alcohol - they have the dumbest laws. They can sell beer and wine in grocery stores, but only at a proof that no beer and wine is at. End up with about 10 bottles of some no-name brand of wine that will conform to those standards. Really stupid stuff.

When I moved to Texas and registered all my stuff 2 years ago, the physical line wasn't bad at all.

But, the fact that I had to make an appointment a few weeks in advance was a hassle.

Yeah that's completely false. I've lived in Arkansas for 43 years and lived in Mississippi for 2. We sell beer everywhere. I know people who own and run liquor stores. Also, I'm from East Arkansas (Helena) and we had a Kroger there and it is a wet county. Were you there or in West Memphis? Maybe Newport?

The DL is good for 5 years.

Good point. I think Arizona was particularly slow to adopt.

When the girl showed me her DL with the expiration date decades in the future, that was probably in 2021.

A guy who reports to me in Arizona just got his "Travel ID" because he finally had to fly on a plane. Imagine being age 50 and trying to find your birth certificate on short notice. Yikes.

Grocery sales won't happen any time soon unless WalMart really flexes their muscle (and checkbook) to which they've shown zero inclination. HEB doesn't want to sell it and Kroger only would if they had to.

I don't buy a lot of liquor unless I'm having company but when I do I usually get it at the pharmacy because it's easier in and out.

For the same reason car dealers don't want sales on Saturday and Sunday. The cost to be open is generally higher than the revenue they would make. People in Texas already know these shops are closed on Sunday and generally do their shopping early
