I shop at Kroger, I use their digital coupons therefor I get e-mails from them from time to time. Usually it is telling me about new deals or reminding me to use my fuel points. Today's e-mail however, just nuts!

Subject: You Can Opt Out of Mother's Day & Father's Day Communications

We know Mother's Day and Father's Day can be sensitive times for some. If you'd like to opt out of our emails and push notifications for these holidays, please tap below. Don't worry, you'll still receive all of our other emails.

How soft of a society have we become that we cannot just delete a freakin' e-mail if we don't want to read it. I mean, good on Kroger I guess. BUT REALLY!?

I have lost both parents, but I can handle it. Emails are the least of the reminders, not that I need any. I can only assume that someone complained.

I would probably just opt out of all their irrelevant emails, but I'm not going to fault any company for providing options.

Sorry to hear about your folks. Unfortunately, I don't think the email was intended for customers with no mother or father. More likely that their intended audience is those with or part of 2 of one and none of the other

That is ridiculous. People who have lost their parents like I have lost my father understand this day and what it meant and still means to plenty of people it's idiotic that anyone would get upset over this.
I don’t get enough credit for the things I manage not to say.

Right? Imagine being so selfish that you're upset that other people still have parents to celebrate on Mother's Day and Father's Day.

Yeah, I lost my Dad but seriously, I never once thought, "don't remind me I had a Dad and now I don't". If anything, I like being reminded of him. Not to mention that I am a Dad myself. Just seems over sensitive to me personally.

Hmm, I didn't think about that. That is even worse if you ask me. Like I said, good on them I guess, it just seems totally unnecessary.

It might be a way of verifying that an email to that address is actually being read. Making the information more valuable to sell the information on to other companies?

Could also be to women who cannot have kids. I know when we were struggling for years that Mother's Day was hard on my wife.

My dad and I grew to be very close, and losing him was really tough. While the impact of his loss in my life has lessened over time, the first couple of years I really resented Father's Day. I knew it was irrational and I wasn't holding it against the people who still have fathers, but stuff like marketing emails for Father's Day still carried a little bit of sting for a while.

I'm glad your experience was different.

seems to be a theme from some vendors. Peter Millar also thought about my parents that are still alive.

Guess they hired a contact company who pushed this opt out service.

Every holiday causes anxiety and depression in someone.

Kroger probably has a mid-manager in communications who has woke tendencies.

Most probably it's for people who had terrible parents and have issues today.

Our first miscarriage happened 4 days before Mother's Day. We spent that Mother's day in the hospital due to the after effects of losing a pregnancy. Almost lost my wife in the process.

Not saying a Kroger email would have made things worse, but one less thing...

Marketing emails should be punishable by death. Every single one I get is marked as spam and the email address gets blocked.

Every. Single. One.

I'd be more concerned about why you willingly shop at Kroger.

Yes, this is why these types of emails are out there, not for people who lost their parents.

We also lost our first to miscarriage and there's still random times where a trigger pulls thoughts of them to mind on what could have been. A friend has lost two and will probably never have a child due to the complications.

It's not something they need to do but it's a nice thought. Don't begrudge them either way.

I figured it was due to the high rate of estrangement between parents and adult children that's plaguing society right now.

Lolz. But remember they didn't do this on a whim. Major corporations don't make these decisions without inputs and focus groups. Those are the psychopaths we should all worry about.

My dad died when I was 36 years old, some 37 years ago. My mom died when I was 43 years old. I never resented Father's Day or Mother's Day just because mine were gone. I tended to remember the fun times we had, the things we did, and though I missed my parents, and still do, that didn't mean the holiday was something terrible or to be avoided.

- miscarriage
- death of a child
- infertility

These are just some of the ways that mother's day (or father's day I guess) aren't celebrated with warm fuzzies by everyone.

This is true. I'm convinced these focus groups, companies use, are made up of the biggest pantywaists around.

What about trans-women who cannot have children? Mother's Day could be painful.
