How do you stop this psychopath from hunting? He goes outside with me and trees squirrels starting at 5am while
I workout in the garage. He stands here all day eyeing the tree lines waiting for a squirrels, deer, turkey to show itself and depending on the noise that comes out of him I know exactly what it is.

He'd choose death over not hunting.

you have to own working dogs and let them do what they bred for to truly understand that a dogs happiness/ health is directly tied to fulfilling their mission.

LOl... and thats the kind of dog a lib would keep in his 14thh floor apartment.

And they'd tell everyone their dog has terrible anxiety and keep it drugged up all the time bc he's gone insane being couped up... But he's soo cute.

Back on topic: I almost wish this would pass just to watch the fallout.

This is crazy, but I can somewhat see the point of this bill.

The last seven years of my career I commuted about 70 minutes or so from the Knoxville area up to Gatlinburg. I had no idea that 70 miles would reveal the differences in those who grew up in the mountains. Several of my co-workers were bear hunters…and I was invited on more than one occasion. However, I soon realized this wasn't hunting (like I knew in the Hill Country)…it was shooting. The guys would set motion detectors on trees in the mountains, and hang out in a parking lot while looking at their iPhones. Once they got a 'hit,' they'd drive to the area of the hit and release their dogs. The hope was the dogs would drive the bear/bears up a tree where he was shot. In many cases, the bears fought the dogs, and many dogs were wounded to the point they needed to be put down. I love dogs, and I thought this was brutal. But these guys had their hunting dogs, and they had their indoor pets.

I am not PETA, and I've seen hundreds of cows, hogs, and chickens slaughtered in packing plants around the United States. And honestly, bear meat is delicious. But just my opinion, it was way too cruel for me.

Just my opinion.

My congressman August Pfluger said he will work to strip this amendment out of the Farm Bill if there's any chance it bans hunting dogs.

I would call my congressman. However, he's still sulking from the ass kicking he received back in March.
Doubt he would want to help anyone one right now.

One other thing. It's not that these people were bad. They were mountain people who relied on the bear meat given their economic status. Me personally…I just couldn't reconcile the use of the dogs to hunt. I never criticized them…but I always made a point to decline their invites.

The text of HR 5017

The relevant part is probably Section 30(a)(3), which states:

"It shall be unlawful to conduct open field coursing or live lure training with the use of any bait that is not an inanimate object".

Just for clarity...

The "Farm Bill" in question is H.R.7567 - Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026.

The admendment is the full wording from H.R.5017 - Greyhound Protection Act of 2025.

Currently, that wording is not shown in the text for H.R.7567 on the Congress.gov website.

The purpose of H.R.5017 is to ban Greyhound racing nationwide. There are currently only 2 active tracks in the United States, both being in West Virginia.

The language in question is what Claude! posted above:
Quote:

(a) In general. It shall be unlawful

(3) to conduct open field coursing or live lure training with the use of any bait that is not an inanimate object;

"Open Field Coursing" is defined (basically) in the bill"
Quote:

(10) Open field coursing preceded commercial dog racing and is an activity in which greyhounds or other sighthounds are released to pursue and kill bait animals, including jack rabbits and hares, often in a fenced area. Greyhounds may collide and suffer injuries in the chase.

There is no language in the bill that outright bans hunting with a dog. The main concern is about training methods using live bait.

Several organizations have expressed public concern regarding "unintended conequences" on how that extends to hunting dogs:

1) American Kennel Club
2) Sportsmen's Alliance
3) International Association of Canine Professionals

My only question is how prevelent is the use of live bait training for hunting dogs today?

As a kid (late 70s) I went to several field trials with my dad who took our GSPs. Pigeons were used for training.

Owning a pit bull is like owning a very friendly, kind, sweet, loving bazooka.

They are generally very kind natured animals that are strong, fast, fearless, and have about 300 psi bite.

Congress is so ****ing corrupt! Bills hidden within bills. Provisions buried because they know it would never pass otherwise. There's literally nothing Congress is doing to actually help people.

This law is unenforceable. People that hunt with dogs do so in counties where zero juries are going to convict for a federal hunting dog crime.

This is all a waste of time and money, and a way to let the feds harass harmless responsible people.

Federal juries are drawn from a large geographic area, not just one county, so there is always a "city" of some size in that geographic area. But still your point is well taken. What LE agency will enforce this law?

Seems like the obvious answer is Game Wardens but will they make an arrest for a violation of a federal law and then spend time going to federal court? I doubt it.

" live lure training with the use of any bait that is not an inanimate object;". This is the part that will be used to limit bird dog training - without it specifically saying for purposes of greyhound racing training , it will be used by the animal rights folks to prevent the use of live birds for bird dog training. And I bet it was left vague with that purpose in mind. They always bend the language vague for future purposes.
