I also wish he or Pope Francis would have spoken out more strongly against some of the things liberals, especially liberal Catholics promote. I would have appreciated a correction of Biden, Pelosi, or any other person who professes to be Catholic that supports abortion, transgenderism, homosexuality, or any other issue the Church strongly opposes.

This doesn't change the fact that his view and the Church's position on those things are clear. I also think it is easy for many of us to forget the fact that the Pope speaks about, prays about, and preaches about tons of issues, conflicts, matters all over the world and typically, the ones that get covered the most heavily by our media are the things that are going to stir up controversy or conflict.

I agree Talarico is whack, but I doubt a state senator is really even on the Pope's radar, heck, I would bet most people outside of Texas have no idea who that nutjob is.

Well he actually IS in his lane.

I doubt you feel the same when evangelical leaders in the U.S. equally give their opinion on politics.

Except for the "Jesus told us", what part of the quote is not correct?

Fair enough about Talarico. And I will admit I'm not as in tune as a practicing catholic would be regarding his statements other than what's reported.

I still think he's pushing an agenda thats primary goal is to counter the Trump admin. Trump was probably out of line in how harshly he went after Leo, but I don't think he's unjustified in feeling like he's being unfairly targeted. It's the double standard that frustrates me the most.

Videos like this of Leo "making up" scripture are part of the collateral in this cat fight. Although it's meant for Cameroon, he has a microscope on him from now on because of his American statements.

I love my Catholic brothers and sisters and wish the top leadership of the church was more like the many Catholics I know. They're critical in making cultural differences in their communities and the downstream benefits politically and spiritually that result. I think Leo owes guys like you a bunch for sticking up for him through it all.

I don't disagree and definitely see where you are coming from regarding a perceived double standard. There are definitely times where I wish the Pope or other Church leaders would speak out more strongly on other issues facing the U.S., if they are going to continue to comment on things that Trump and his admin do.

I appreciate the dialogue.

Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. We're talking about a book written buy a bunch of guys about a guy and other guys none of whom spoke English. It's gone through the translate, interpret, scribe process 468,000 times.

We can safely say "Jesus didn't say that" about it about everything in the bible.

Exactly. I think of all the mutilated kids who were encouraged to change sex all the silence of church leaders on gender issues. It could have been greatly snubbed.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, he was preaching in Cameroon, a country that has been plagued by civil war and violence for close to a decade. I would think that what he was preaching on would have to do with the conflict of the people he was preaching to.

You think that he was using a homily in Cameroon to subliminally comment on President Trump and our war in Iran?

The pope started this with direct comments to American politics, and specifically the Iran war. He has not retracted those comments, and, in typical radical liberal style, in fact has doubled down on them. This comment in Cameroon could easily be, and most probably is, a continuation of the controversy he initiated with his poor scriptural exegesis.

This is only funny if you have a Jack Chick or worse understanding of Catholicism.

Every Catholic priest has to read several hundred Bible verses every day between breviary & Mass, plus most read more than required. Pope Leo XIV has done this every day since 1977 when he entered the Augustinian novitiate.

The quote ends after "peacemakers," the rest is actually verbatim a statement Leo himself put on X.

I do have to appreciate the irony that the first Pope from a primarily English speaking country in 900 years poorly constructed a sentence that could be misconstrued this way. Really showcasing that American education!

Just highlighting this because it should be obvious.
