Pope condemns deadly attacks in Nigeria

"It is with sorrow and concern that I learned of the recent attacks against various communities in Nigeria leading to a heavy loss of life," the Pope said, speaking on Sunday after reciting the noonday Angelus..

On the evening of 3 February, at least 160 people were killed in the village of Woro, in the country's central-west region.

"I express my prayerful closeness to all the victims of violence and terrorism," the Pope added. "I likewise hope that the competent Authorities will continue to work with determination to ensure the safety and protection of the life of every citizen."

In addition to Nigeria, the Pope also prayed on Sunday for victims of human trafficking and for those affected by floods and landslides in Spain, Morocco, Portugal and Sicily.

https://www.vaticannews.va/en/pope/news/2026-02/pope-angelus-appeals-nigeria-floods.html

Now just wait a minute…. he wants the authorities to work with determination to ensure the safety and protection of the life of every citizen and address human trafficking…..

That sounds an awful lot like what POTUS Trump is doing in the USA by going after criminal illegals and enforcing our border and immigration laws. Or does Leo not understand the violation of one leads to the other…. I guarantee that Pope Leo is 100% ignorant of the numerous rapes, murders, assaults, manslaughter and general crime and fraud committed by illegal immigrants in the USA. Which is why he shouldn't be commenting on how POTUS is handling our domestic issues.

Same. But it's still ok to point out the hypocrisy of the leader of the group that loves to think they're the only true Christians.

Except for the "Jesus told us", what part of the quote is not correct?

The punctuation. The "woe to those..." was the following sentence, a reflection commentary on the quoted scripture. Something pastors/preachers of all denominations do.

This is only funny if you have a Jack Chick or worse understanding of Catholicism.

Every Catholic priest has to read several hundred Bible verses every day between breviary & Mass, plus most read more than required. Pope Leo XIV has done this every day since 1977 when he entered the Augustinian novitiate.

Who's Jack Chick? Okay, I looked and have never heard of the guy. I wasn't sure if "Jack chick" was a phrase or a person TBH.

Really!?!?!?!?! Never once came across his infamous cartoon "Christian" tracts? Some are great unintentional humor (actually funny unlike this attempt by the Bee). All have little to no clue what the hell they are talking about.

Ah yes, the Catholic equivalent of Godwin's Law. Studies have shown this particular problem is not exclusive to the clergy of the Catholic Church.

Satan has a firm understanding of scripture, too

Catholic Church does not teach you can earn salvation. Salvation is a free gift of God's grace, received through faith, which must be accompanied by works of love. Faith and works are seen as inseparable; genuine faith inherently produces good works, while faith without works is dead.

And he's certainly no historian. Good 'on this day' in history note here;

The pope's Teutonic Knights would go on to establish Prussia, essentially the leading military state of Europe down through WW1, and culturally/militarily through WW2.
Quote:

Originally founded in the Holy Land during the Third Crusade to care for German pilgrims and fight Muslims, the Order was invited north around 12251230 to fight the pagan Prussians. They succeeded spectacularly, conquering and Christianizing Prussia and building an impressive network of stone (and later brick) castles. Their headquarters at Malbork Castle became the largest brick fortress in the world. They later absorbed the Livonian Sword Brothers and dominated large parts of modern Poland, Latvia, and Estonia.

Quote:

These campaigns remain one of the most fascinating and controversial chapters of medieval history: part religious mission, part brutal conquest and colonization.

Malbork Castle fwiw is largely restored today. It's on my bucket list.

This is very basic and boilerplate. I have seen it 1000 times on this board. "Anyone who says something I disagree with is a leftist".

The Pope is literally calling for peace (in line with the teachings of Jesus and the Catholic Church), but this poster is mad for some reason and thinks its leftist. Bizarre.

We're talking about a book written buy a bunch of guys about a guy and other guys none of whom spoke English. It's gone through the translate, interpret, scribe process 468,000 times.

We can safely say "Jesus didn't say that" about it about everything in the bible.

That's not how it works. It's not a game of telephone with one line of transmission.

There are thousands of copies of Greek and Aramaic ancient texts that we have, and VERY minor differences from the translations we have today. Read up on it or listen to some Wesley Huff.

You get about 10 minutes max of reading from the bible and then double that of human opinion.

Catholics know nothing of the bible compared to Baptists.

But I'm not talking about reading it, with respect to the Pope, or the Cardinals, or the Bishops, or the Priests, or the whole hierarchy that puts themself between the people and Jesus.

I'm talking about teaching it to the people.

Baptists do every single entire sermon AND their classes every single Sunday. Catholics get about 5-10 minutes of it being read to them.

And to be clear. I'm a fan of both. Too much bickering and back-stabbing between the 'religions'. We're all sinners, believers, and trying. It's kind of stupid.
