Sorry, but this often repeated mantra is totally false. In non-conspiratorial terms, there are a LOT of secrets being kept -- spouses who haven't been totally forthcoming about who they've slept with, parents who don't know who their kids have hung out with/done at school/etc., things that go on at companies between managers/employees and partners, and a ****-ton of other stuff.

You wouldn't believe the amount of financial and criminal stuff spouses (or people dating/living together) and partners, to name two specific relationships, don't know about each other. Trust me: when they want to keep a secret, they do. To their grave.

I know this as a confidant of sorts for a LONG time. I also know it because, sadly in this case, I have a memory that allows me to retain a lot of things people have told me over the years. Then, I hear other things a few years later that SHOULDN'T be related but are. I know girls from HS that had abortions during that time and I'm like one of maybe 4 people that know (including their family) because I just took 2-3 comments over a multi-year period and "figured" it out. (I could go on about a LOT of other stuff). So while there may not be a TOTAL blackout of information (i.e. SOMEONE may say something to one person), few of these things turn into actual gossip.

Sure, we all know blabbermouths. But those people are NEVER involved in what you're talking about. Or, they're fed lies that they'll for sure repeat. Hell, this happens on things that aren't criminal or stuff that anyone else would even care about.
