Yes I was looking for an update on it this morning as it's a terrible tragedy. Only update I saw was here.
Why, pray tell, were these future doctors and engineers hanging out at the food court during school hours? I'm starting to think maybe they aren't as committed to their education as the pastors and politicians constantly tell us they are.

The young woman I know who was killed and the kids I know that were wounded went to the Mall of Acadiana on Senior Skip Day. Reminder that day? I went to Oaklawn Race track and drank beer and gambled all day with a bunch of friends. These straight A students who hung out together in a small school went shopping at a nice mall.
The kid killed and the others wounded were innocent bystanders from out of town caught in the crossfire.

The murdered girl was named Martha. I just keep hearing my wife hollering "Look at Martha go!" In my head. As a freshman and sophomore she was one of those girls who ran on her tip toes and swung a softball bat with a one inch space between her hands. Her mom was at every sporting event even though as a freshman she was as far from an athlete as a girl can get. Hence the surprised and joyful calls for Martha when she got a hit or made a good play on the soccer field. Martha grew into being assertive and was the captain of the soccer team and editor of the school paper her senior year. A straight A student and girl who did everything right and had a sweet disposition.
And now we will be heading back to Lafayette soon to bury her and mourn with the other kids that have known her since she was 4.
And no it wasn't a gun that killed her. It was a useless thug living out his thug culture that is celebrated in every hip hop song. A person pulled the trigger. And we all know why.
