The names and state where these people were located should be published and the loopholes that they used closed.

Y'all should drive though 3rd and 5th ward of Houston. Houses falling down or half burnt. Yet a brand luxury car sitting in the driveway. Even the amount of luxury cars at the SS office at the 1st of every month is a site to see.

Guess I'm to white for food stamps.

If I were cagey enough (heartless enough) to scam the gov, I WOULD NOT buy an Alfa??? How can there be that many Alfa's, that is like the entire number in the US, what a mechanical pain in the butt, hope they never start for these creeps!

A house payment can be $1500 to $3000 per month and a loan is difficult to obtain without a good job, title insurance, closing costs and even references. A luxury car lease can be as low as $400/month and you can get one at any dealership.

Don't think you can lease anything on that list for close to $400. We just got a low mileage two year lease on a Genesis GV70 for $397. Nice car it's it's not comparable to that list. Maybe something in the Alfa lineup or a lower end Model Y.

At my Church, once a month we provide free food, canned items, fresh vegetables, rice, etc. I cannot tell you the of cars that I see going through the line that more expensive than mine…I certainly can understand if there are one or maybe even 2 with people helping family members pick up food. But what I see is about every 3rd car is a really nice car…make it make sense.

It yanks my chain when I see this scenario play out on the news. The San Antonio food bank will show a procession of nice cars lined up and trunks open loading food and drinks. Then beg for more food because they are running low. Pathetic that they won't qualify these fraudsters

The old line is that you can't judge someone because what if they just lost their job, they are not going to sell their reliable transportation for a cash beater, and therefore you may not judge someone in the welfare line by the car they drive.

Exactly. Shut it completely down and have people register again. Really simple.

That won't happen though due to the politicians getting paid by the big food lobbyists ensuring this grift stays open. Just like the H1B scam.

Please take a gander at the poverty levels of Phillips, Lee, Monroe Counties in Arkansas (area that I'm from). The amount of shotgun houses, shacks and trailers with chromed out Escalades in the driveway will make your heads spin. Same with the Delta counties in Mississippi. It's uncanny. Who needs to take care of their kids when they have a sweet slab in the carport?!

We stopped the line method and now it is by appointment and on a need basis with certain criteria to be met. Too many were just coming for free food that took away from those that actually need it.

So... democrats.

Yeah that's week and fine if they're in a King Ranch F150 or a Charger, or even an Audi. We can argue about emergency funds and savings, but that's a different discussion. There's a difference in a guy laid off at the plant making ends meet and rolling up in a Bentley.

Point me to where I need to go to lease a Lamborghini for $400 a month.

Texas A&M's own Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins reports:

Quote:

In just ONE state, 14,000 individuals receiving SNAP benefits were driving LUXURY VEHICLES!

  • 3 Bentleys
  • 3 Ferraris
  • 11 Lamborghinis
  • 59 Maseratis
  • 141 Porsches
  • 244 Alfa Romeos
  • 306 Land Rovers
  • 2,098 Teslas
And this is just in ONE STATE. We need to defend our nutrition programs for those most in need, not for scammers gaming the system.

These individuals are taking advantage of the American taxpayer. And together with the VP's Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, this ends NOW.

4.3M Americans have been moved off of SNAP but more work to be done!

If they know that to be a fact, then at least 2865 people should already be in custody. Since that fact is missing from the story, I find myself questioning the validity of her claim.

Your car and your house do not count in eligibility.

They should if you bought them since you got on the benefits, at the very least.

I wonder what percentage gets repossessed a few months after they bought them.

This is why I no longer volunteer to give out Thanksgiving baskets. They roll up in brand new $80k vehicles and wait in line for handouts. I'm told to not judge, but I do and I fall short of the grace required.

I can give you so many examples of folks that "game" the system. It's sad. They take resources away from those truly in need.

I see SNAP as another program that should be fully discontinued, with any form of assistance left to individual states to manage as they see fit.

I was going to post an Adam Carolla video on this, but too much language. Basically says you can buy some eggs, beans apple and rice and feed your own kids. Don't count on schools or government. If you can't afford $10 a day to feed kids then don't have them.

I did some work in Michigan doing inspections and sampling inside of HUD section 8 housing complexes in the mid 90s. Everybody living there was on welfare and/or some other form of public assistance. The parking lot of that place would have made the early 90s parking lot at Cain Hall blush.

To be fair, the Alfa and Land Rover owners probably didn't need food stamps until their vehicles started frequenting the repair shops.

It is mind boggling how 14,000 individuals receiving SNAP benefits were driving luxury vehicles. I am glad SNAP benefits have been cut off from 4.3 million Americans, but more work needs to be done to stop the scammers.

Not surprised by this report. When I taught high school in South Houston, I recall those who were on some sort of welfare (including food stamps) owned expensive electronics such as smart phones, video game systems, and TV's. Some on food stamps happened to be obese.

Where's this info published? I thought the federal government stopped tracking race (se FBI UCR) during Obama bc its racist... I have a feeling that as a percentage by race, whites are MUCH lower than others.

It's not shameful anymore. If you're giving out free stuff, people will take it. Why not? One less thing they have to buy.

Shame is something that needs to be brought back into the culture. Shame is a good thing and we don't near enough of it anymore.

Watching folks at HEB checking out the free food folks have welfare stuff on their smartphones that they carry in designer purse.
Why not go back to at least a card maybe in some reserved color. For fun even put a light like the old Blue light special lights to go off when that card is run.? The only humility I see is when either the card runs out of money or they try to sneak the wrong item thru, get called out and heaven forbid required to use their own money to pay for an item.
I watched an older fellow at a butcher shop spend gis entire $400-$500 monthly allotment on bison, smoked salmon, Quail, pheasant, and prime cuts of meat. The butcher later told me that he came in every month to do this. The butcher had gone to HEB and purchased food to sell that fit the food groups to allow his meat market to accept the food stamp card.
It's all a scam.
