It's not surprising that the shame element has been lost. It was inevitable with how this system "works."

Let's say you know someone who is financially better off than you are. You see that they qualify for and take the free stuff. What would your immediate thought be? Most people would think "hell, if they're taking it then I might as well too." That is the precise moment when the shame factor gets lost and a snowball effect begins.

It gets even worse when you have actual wealthy people thinking along these lines. My thought process goes like this and it would be a lie to say I haven't thought it: I see huge numbers of people are taking the free stuff who don't truly need it. Even more infuriating, that so many feel entitled to it, don't appreciate it, and don't even try to get off of it. I'm being forced at gunpoint to pay for this outrageous system. That makes me feel like a sucker who is being taken advantage of. Therefore, I have no objection to taking for myself, whatever I can qualify for. This whole thing is exactly like the metaphor of more people getting in the cart than pulling it.

I can't think of a more obvious example of a system that should be outright abolished. Considering we can't even get minor cuts to this monstrosity, I have to believe it's on purpose a la Cloward-Piven strategy.

Interestingly, she is unable to name a single offender or even the state in which this occurring.

The number of folks getting arrested for this fraud is likely fewer than are named in the Epstein Files.

This is what happens when a homeowner becomes so dumb that he leaves his door open at night in a bad neighborhood.

In Texas people who drive luxury cars with MEXICO license plates are getting welfare checks and othe benefits. All they need is a Texas address so they use an address of a family member then drive over the river and benefit.

Partially on topic here. When Mx nationals shop at stores in Laredo, maybe everywhere, after checking out they take their receipt to return or customer service desk, and are refunded all sales tax.
Nice gig if you can get it.

Nothing new. Nobody should be surprised by this.

I worked at Albertsons in High school from '92-95. Started as a sacker...back when you actually accompanied the patron to their car and loaded the groceries. Also back when Food Stamps were actually food stamps and looked a bit like monopoly money. Used to have folks pay with WIC or food stamps and then take groceries out to a Cadillac or an SUV (SUV's weren't so common back then).

Pissed me off then and pisses me off now...especially every April 15th. Once had a rather large lady paying with food stamps yell and threaten me when I tried to shut her trunk manually...I had never seen an automatic trunk.

My Mom drove a 1979 Ford LTD and Dad drove an Astro Van that he sold sewing machines out of. We also never got the good snacks that these people would buy.

Same experience in the '70s. A true "welfare queen" with a Cadillac.

None of the high school checkout people in our suburban store knew how to handle food stamps. I'm sure we let that lady buy all kinds of things that weren't allowed.

We'd never seen her before, and never saw her again later. She showed up on a Saturday, bought a ton of expensive groceries, paid for them with food stamps and drove off. It was eye-opening for me.

I was in DeSoto in mid '90's. The demographics were changing and we were well aware of food stamps.

Also had a lady buy some candy that you paid for by weight. She's buy a couple pieces and pay with food stamps and get 95 cebts in change…any change below a dollar they received cash. She did this three times, then bought cigerettes.

How much did she weigh?
