Maybe, but not because of this issue.

There's a Ray Wylie Hubbard song lyric in there somewhere, but I can't quite recall.

We should always be concerned with the values of elected politicians. Do you not think their religions beliefs contribute to how they govern? If so, then you are not paying attention.

Diwali fireworks are now legally permitted in unincorporated Harris and Fort Bend counties due to Texas HB 608, allowing sales five days before through midnight on the last day of Diwali. This applies to unincorporated areas only; fireworks are strictly prohibited within the City of Houston. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
Key details:
- Diwali Authorization: Harris and Fort Bend counties approved special fireworks sales for Diwali, acknowledging its importance to the Indian community.
- Location Restrictions: Fireworks are illegal within Houston city limits. They are permitted in unincorporated county areas (e.g., Katy, Cypress, Spring).
- Burn Bans: Even if a general burn ban is in effect, Diwali fireworks are often specifically permitted, though sometimes limited to smaller fireworks.

I know that Vivek is a very smart guy. However, being a brown and non-Christian, he has a certain disadvantage in America because some parts are very racist and very religion-obsessed, and some parts just want a good administrator who think America-first.
Vivek also runs the risk of being smeared because of him being of Indian origin and a Hindu. He needs to read the room about H1B and STFU about it or address people's concerns. He did not say that Americans are dumb or anything like that but he got smeared by his opponents who grabbed the chance to twist his words.
He should also not be talking about Jesus or Christianity as he cannot win the discussion or argument. He will always lose, even if he is right. So better to stay away and say a generic "you have your beliefs, and I have mine. Let's respect each other's beliefs, that is the American way". But him being an intellectual, he gets into discussions not realizing this would be used against him.
In summary, VR needs to learn when to not open his gob.

Considering that he is a Hindu, then his comments reflect his beliefs. Christian voters can appreciate a religion that is older than Christianity and are not so shallow as to cast him aside because they disagree with his belief.

Imagine how Islamic societies would view him for saying Muhammad is just one prophet but there are many ways to get your 72 virgins. Christianity teaches that Jesus is THE way....like that is directly from his mouth.
So surely you can see how it rubs people the wrong way and comes across as hollow pandering. Again though...i have less of a problem with his religious beliefs and more of a problem with his cockiness and sense of racial superiority...that Indians are the best and will save America. No, they are just the most desperate and driven for the time being because they come from such horrific conditions compared to ours and now feel like they have the keys to the kingdom. Their offspring will eventually regress to the mean.
Being Indian does not make you superior.

What should he have said?
John 14:6
"I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
Jesus says (according to Christian scripture): My way is the only way and there is no other way
Muhammad says (according to Islamic scripture): My way is the only way and there is no other way
Logic tells me at least one of these two are wrong. Maybe both.
What is the truth? There can only be one truth. People don't like to hear it and have been fighting and killing over it for centuries.
This is why I dislike organized religion where the goal is to get more followers. It's now a business were love and compassion have gone out of the window. All bad human flaws still show up.
This whole discussion of the right way and if there is only one right way is dumb. No one really knows and everyone is just guessing based on childhood or adult brainwashing.
Summary: People should use their own brain that God (if you believe) gave them.

Yeah, but in large enough numbers, many of them just chip away at our culture and sense of unity. Like if you import enough, it changes things. They have taken over certain areas in and around Houston and voted to ban fireworks, except for on indian holidays, in some cases.
If they all assimilated and truly loved and appreciated this country, I'd have zero problems. But too many are here to grift off of us (and no more). Hopefully their children assimilate and become Americanized.

This thread began on how Christians should view Hindus on their beliefs. The OP did not mention anything about personality or cockiness.

Texas House Bill 608 (88th Legislature, 2023) was signed into law and became effective on September 1, 2023. It relates specifically to the sale of fireworks before and during the Diwali holiday. [1, 2]
Key Provisions of HB 608 (2023):
- Retail Sale Expansion: The bill authorizes a county commissioners court to allow retail fireworks permit holders to sell fireworks to the public for the Diwali holiday season.
- Timeline: The approved sales period begins five days before the first day of Diwali and ends at midnight on the last day of Diwali.
- Drought Monitoring: The act requires the Texas A&M Forest Service to make its services available to determine if dangerous drought conditions exist in a county during the specified Diwali fireworks season, similar to other authorized fireworks seasons (such as the 4th of July or December).
- Local Authority: County commissioners must decide whether to prohibit or restrict these fireworks, based on drought conditions, no later than 15 days before the start of the Diwali period. [1]

Ah I see, well, I'm glad he's being honest.
I just weight that higher than a candidate's ability to thread a rhetorical needle to avoid losing hypothetical identity politics votes.
Well I guess we'll have to see how voters respond to this on election day. I was under the impression that saying Jesus Christ is not the way to heaven might annoy some Christians here.
Want to be upfront: I'm a Christian and I believe Jesus is the only way to the Father. That's settled for me. So this isn't me arguing Vivek is right about Jesus. He isn't.
But I can't square the idea that a Hindu candidate honestly stating Hindu beliefs is a political self-own he should have avoided. Scripture doesn't model a religious litmus test for civil authority. Isaiah 45, God calls Cyrus, a Persian polytheist, his "anointed," explicitly saying "though you do not acknowledge me." In Jeremiah 27 He calls Nebuchadnezzar "my servant."
Daniel served under both without requiring either to convert first.
Romans 13 frames the magistrate's job as restraining evil and rewarding good, not confessing Christ.
The thing that bothers me about the "he hurt himself with Christian voters" framing is that the implicit fix is for Vivek to fudge his beliefs for votes.
That would make Christianity into a tribal badge a candidate wears to be electable, exactly the kind of "Lord, Lord" profession Jesus warned about in Matthew 7:21. I'd rather have an honest Hindu than a strategic Christian, and I think that's actually the more biblical posture.

Hinduism has many good things about it. It, like Christianity, I a religion of peace and love. I'm not Hindu, but I'd much rather have a devout Hindu neighbor than a Muslim, or some Christians for that matter.
