This didn't age well. I hope she's getting slammed on X for this.

Warren has never been correct about anything.

But let's absolutely make sure that the poor distraught C levels of Spirit Airlines get their HUGE bonuses as they sell off whatever is left so that they can survive these difficult times and maintain the lifestyle that they are accustomed to.

We need to learn to appreciate and nurture business talent.

That is incredible. I almost can't believe it. Did she forget she was the one who took the lead on getting the market to this state?

Frontier
Allegiant
Southwest

SWA is actually not that cheap in many cases so I don't think a ton of spillover to SWA is in order. They may certainly run some sale fares in the interim though to try and win new Customers. They've done that many times in the past when an airline exits or leaves a market.

Good, I wouldn't want my money lost trying to save the shareholders here from the consequences of terrible management at Spirit over the years.

BTW, politically let's remember glorious Pete bragging about blocking a merger with Jet Blue they tried to pull off, to 'protect consumer choice':

"Access to low fares and maintaining competition." Lost on both counts.

Austin airport actually has a different terminal for spirit and frontier. You have to ride a bus to get to it. I flew frontier once because I couldn't get anything else. The terminal has a bar in it and it's like a different country.

It's the most Austin thing I've ever seen.
I hope I did not offend anybody with this post. If I did, please come see me at my address in my profile so we can talk.

Frontier has some struggles but has made money recently. JetBlue is next.

Make no mistake Scott Kirby's suggestion to merge AA with United was never going to happen and he knew it. That was all a ploy to now go back and ask for approval for United to merge with JetBlue. Once that happens look for either AA or Delta to make a run at Frontier.

It is still staggering to me how incompetent these Democrats are when it comes to the economy and business. Buttigieg and Warren really believed that blocking the merger was the right thing to do.

It's a miracle we whent through four years of the Biden administration and didn't end up a lot worse than it was.

Never one to be daunted by mere facts, she now laments the big 4's market dominance.

Someone please let me know if a leftist ever admits they were wrong, some where, some time. I'm not holding my breath.

Her zombified brainchild, the leftist money-laundering CFPB, is a barely respirating bureaucratic corpse now that the unconstitutional structure it was birthed as has been struck down. Another 'consumers first' predictable policy failure.

Hey Elizabeth, what is the optimal number of airlines to control 75% of the market?

How do you feel about Coca Cola, Pepsi, & Dr Pepper controlling over 75%

What about Kellogg, General Mills, and post?

Top 4 banks? Almost 100%

Stay out of what you don't know.

How about mobile phones? Two companies own 100% of market.

Next thing Warren will do is to go after Elon and Starlink because he's the only option in many rural markets for internet, but since he's a monopoly he must be stopped!

In all honesty, the customers will probably start flying more American Airlines.

From my last 2 years of flying, I've seen American more and more filled with spirit type flyers as that airline has tried to capture more butts in seats buy lowering basic fares and adding as many seats as possible.
They are even shrinking the galley areas to add more seats.
On flights over 3 hours they only offer 1 drink service in economy, don't offer pre-ordering of food, and overall aren't any different from spirit or frontier other than they are 1 of the big 3 and don't fly point to point to point.

While United and Delta have gone the route of trying to provide a better product, American has gone the route of cutting costs and cheapening the product.

With Southwest effectively dead for the leisure travelers as well due to removal of "free checked bags", American is picking up the slack.

Combine that with American offers more destinations than either United or Delta and I see them as the next greyhound of the sky.

I wouldn't want to be at those ports when the boats get back.

I wouldn't want to be on the boats in the first place.

We don't do cruises. Only way I'm doing one is if it's exorbitantly expensive and is boutique.

Thats more a jab at Indigo Partners who sold their stake in Spirit Airlines and purchased Frontier Airlines in 2013. The quality of service of Frontier dramatically decreased soon after.

Agree. Cannot believe they blocked that merger when the the Big 3 in exist
This blows my mind after United and Continental were allowed to merge.

Same business model

Same owners. Same management.

A significant shift of Spirit Airlines management to Frontier Airlines occurred around 2013-2014, driven by Indigo Partners, which sold its controlling stake in Spirit in 2013 and subsequently purchased Frontier. Key leadership, including current Frontier CEO Barry Biffle, moved to Frontier during this period after holding top positions at Spirit between 2005 and 2013.

Southwest is effectively dead for leisure travel because they adopted essentially the exact same fees American, Delta, and United charge?

I would fly Waffle House Airlines.
They might be cheap, but:
1. their staff wouldn't put up with any BS (to the point of just kicking your butt out midflight)
2. they're not going to cancel flights for anything less than a Category 3 hurricane
3. the upgrade model is straight forward
4. consistent across all locations, at all times
5. bottomless cup of coffee
