Funding Gettysburg and Gods and Generals was one good thing he did.
Too bad G&G got nuked by the racial grievance industrial complex so The Last Full Measure was never made.
Gettysburg was good. Gods and Generals was a lost cause melodrama.
There were 2 sides to the war and 1000 angles. The driving factor for the war was money and power like most wars, slavery was just a factor of that money and power. The reason most men fought in it was where they were born. There was no shortage of very dark things that both sides did and what their motives were for the war and there was also a lot of folks with noble and romanticized ideas about it as well.
That's why the Civil War is such an enigma with layer upon layer of complexity. It's made even moreso because of the timing of it in our nation's history and the impact it had afterward for good and bad. Personally I thought G&G was meh but it does tell a part of the story that is ignored, it's just not the whole story nor was it meant to be.
