A Frontier Airlines flight headed to Los Angeles struck and killed a person who was reportedly walking on a runway during takeoff Friday night at Denver International Airport. The person was at least partially consumed by one of the engines, an official confirmed to ABC News, causing a brief engine fire that was extinguished by firefighters. The incident happened at around 11:19 p.m. Friday when Frontier Flight 4345 reported striking a pedestrian during takeoff, according to a statement from Denver International Airport.

Someone on the runway 17L (far left runway) was hit. Most likely a trespasser. The question is how could this happen?

The answer is a cut fence and disturbed individual. Airport security is chain link and barb wired, generally not monitored outside of cctv in critical areas.

Engine fire? So do they get sucked into the engine?

DIA is 31 miles from downtown Denver. A homeless guy is not likely to walk or ride a bus to the airport, not saying it could not happen.

My thought is that a member of the ground crew, got stoned, and went for a walk on the runway.

In Austin back in 2020 a person was hit and killed on the runway by a Southwest flight. I believe they determined it was a suicide if I recall correctly.

That's not true at all. The train runs from central Denver to right outside the terminal. I have ridden it plenty and there are lots of homeless people that get of the train and ride for as long as they like.

I don't recall but there are homeless absolutely everywhere around Berg. Over 20 years ago, APD had to remove a crackhead that climbed in to the cab of my new truck while I was getting diesel off 71.'

Charming area.

I do not recall any homeless on that train ($10 is a good chunk of change, but I suppose cheaper than a room), but I never rode it during the night. I must admit I normally rent a car.

I would think an engine would be fairly high off the ground. I'm not an airplane expert… can someone explain the height of engine and/or the physics of how that would be possible?

Homeless don't have to pay for the train. The kind leftists just allow them to be on it for free and terrorize people.

The bottom of the engine is about 3 feet off the ground, the top about 7-8 feet. Also, the engine when in takeoff power, has a lot of suction that will pull something in

The homeless don't pay man. They just get on and if the ticket person comes they get off.

Thanks. I would have thought they are much higher off the ground than that… thanks for info. I get it now. Pretty simple.

I see homeless around DEN it's self, but also in the surrounding area some.
It isn't as bad as around town centers, but if they are traveling from 1 place to another they could be in the vast wasteland that is country Colorado.

CNBC seems to think this person is a "pedestrian". Very odd phrasing for someone on an active runway at an airport.

Pedestrian.

Better description is "hit someone walking on an active runway". It isn't like they were on a cross walk waiting at a light or anything.
