the younger generation doesn't want to farm. anyone in ag will tell you that.

people inheriting farms a selling their farms as soon as they have the ability. farmers are finding their kids don't want to have anything to do with it. they dont want the 7 day work weeks, long hours, and low returns.

people outside of ag that get in it are taking huge losses. the returns arent there in today's market to underwrite spinning up a farm at today's prices.

The China Show guys are live now talking about the summit. These guys lived in China for over a decade and have a weekly YouTube show where they break down all of the garbage coming out of China and Chinese propaganda vs reality.

Trump speaks bluntly and anyone with a brain knows his first priority is the safety and security of US citizens. Being under the gun of a nuclear threat from "Death to America" types takes the luster off any financial success we may have. Iran would be in position to mess with our financial interests.

China owns the single largest pork producer in the US. Smithfield.

Why would we consider that a good thing.

There are many forces against farming.

Trump saying it's a good thing for farmers that China is buying more farmland is not America first.

We just signed a massive defence deal with Indonesia, giving us virtual control of the narrow straight that is the most strategic lifeline to China trade coming from Europe and
We are not trading Japan and Singapore and Korea and the Philippines for Venezuela, Mexico, etc.

We already have those under our control.

Our leverage has never been higher concerning China.

Both Iran and Venezuela were dependent on Chinese military tech and they got smashed.

We can swat mosquito fleet whenever we really want.

We are just letting this linger abit till everyone has had their fill of the Islamic Regime of Aryans noncense.

That's all fine, but there is no need to let 500k Chinese here so they can spy and steal our IP. It's known that they do this and is the reason they are here. And to tell us it will collapse our university system if we don't allow them is tard talk. There are 19M+ people in our universities here. Not having 500k Chinese here won't do dick to collapse our university system.

And letting them own farmland is equally unnecessary and stupid.

For every one Chinese student that is a CCP rat there are ten that hate the CCP!

I know this personally. Many come her to try to find away out.

Thousands are I influenced by our standard of freedom and living. Many hat I mean hate going back. They are having a massive impact on the culture there.

You are seeing this from a slanted pointed view. And they do bring a massive amount of money into these universities.

There are CCP operatives, but they are not near the threat of Smallwells, US politicians or citizens taking money or percs from the CCP or other foreign interests.

Editorial from yesterday evening that fits one of my takes: Nothing really happened at this summit. Bunch of talk with no commitments.

The Chinese student b.s. was a capitulation by Trump in the last trade deal failure he had with China, so that isn't new. He's just confirming it again. I can't recall if letting them buy farmland is new or not but that one seems like a new capitulation this time around.

I think we all knew it was the only real bargaining chip Trump had to offer to Xi.
But like you, I definitely was not expecting Trump to say it out loud to the media.

For decades, our politicians have pooched their chests out and made a lot of defiant statements about our commitment to protect Taiwan. Yet even back when I was young, naive, gullible, and idealistic, I knew those words were mostly empty lies if China ever built up a powerful navy and army. Which they have done. When push comes to shove, the USA is not going to war with China over Taiwan. Japan and South Korea, otoh, I still believe we would go to war for. At least I hope we would.

What did Trump get in return for trading Taiwan to China? Hopefully it was more than just soybeans and 200 Boeing airliners. We'll know the answer if Iran does a 180 and decides to accept Trump's JCPOA 2.0 offer.

An update...seems like a win for China and little for us. We get more Chinese spying and ownership of US assets.

Quote:

China said Saturday that it had agreed with the U.S. to establish bilateral boards of trade and investment, fulfilling one expected outcome of President Trump's visit to Beijing and solidifying a commercial truce between the world's two largest economies.

A U.S.-China Board of Trade would be used to discuss tariff reduction on certain products, the Chinese ministry said, without elaborating. Neither did it offer any specifics on how a U.S.-China Board of Investment would operate, though the White House said Thursday that Trump and Xi had discussed "increasing Chinese investment into our industries."

Highly skeptical we can maintain this division especially under Democrats:

Quote:

A senior U.S. official said in the run-up to last week's summit that a Board of Investment would allow the two governments to consider Chinese investment plans in the U.S., and wouldn't interfere with existing investment-screening entities, such as the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S.

I guess Boeing gets a lifeline by getting to sell more planes to China which they will subsequently reverse engineer and speed up stealing that IP. Good job, guys.

Quote:

China's Ministry of Commerce, in a statement published late Saturday in Beijing, also said that the U.S. had agreed to sell aircraft, aircraft engines and aircraft components to China, addressing one notable area in which the country continues to lag behind the U.S.

Aviation remains one area where China has yet to catch up to the U.S. technologically. China's homegrown plane maker, Shanghai-based Comac, has struggled to develop a competitive domestic alternative to commercial planes from Boeing and Europe's Airbus. Comac's leading commercial aircraft model, the C919, relies heavily on technology from U.S. companies.

A U.S. guarantee to supply aircraft, aircraft engines and aircraft components to China would ensure a steady supply of needed inputs as Beijing seeks to match and eventually overtake the U.S.

He's right about (1) the vital importance of Taiwan's chip fabrication, and (2) our commitment to democracy, and (3) our economic partnerships and our strong alliance / friendship / history / duty to Japan, South Korea, and the Phillipines.

I didn't find his other points as compelling or persuasive.

I don't think we should abandon Taiwan. But going to war with China would be a really really bad outcome too. Especially if the America Firsters keep making threats and insults and giving a middle finger to the post-WW2 US-led hegemony alliance of democracies. That hegemonic alliance is far more formidable economically, militarily, and in influence and soft power than America Alone is.

Watched something before church I couldn't believe. Turned it on CNN to see what the enemy was up to and Fareed Zakaria was doing an opinion piece on Trump's trip and the way he is treating Xi. He actually believes Trump is on another level than anyone else regarding negotiations with China. Complimented him numerous times on strategies and criticized lib politicians for their stance.
Particularly criticized Uncle Joe and his minions for repeatedly unloading on their counterparts in face to face meetings.

Jeffries is absolutely right…even the $160B TSMC plant in Phoenix is only making more mature nodes.

We cannot recreate what Taiwan has (infrastructure, ecosystem, talent) to build leading edge chips inside of 15 years.

We can throw a gazillion dollars at the problem but until you're building enough PhD's (materiel science, electrical) who have the requisite managerial expertise…then we're just putting money in a pile and lighting it on fire.

There are valid reasons not to defend Taiwan, but that somehow the US is going to be the leading advanced chip manufacturer in the next 18 months isn't one of them.
