I'm not saying it's good or bad, I'm just saying that's why they chose Juneteenth instead of something else. There currently is no Federal Holiday in August. Whatever group gets a Holiday named after them next, I will guarantee they will shoehorn it somehow into August.

I'm seriously starting to wonder if it was primarily a thing among descendants and families of descendants that were in Galveston in 1865, and/or families who came here during the Great Migration.

As a TxDOT employee, I worked on Juneteenth, and I received 8 hours of compensation time for working a skeleton crew day.

Given that some call it Black Independence Day, I can understand the resistance of some to this holiday. It does sound like they're trying to create a replacement for July 4, which we recognize as Independence Day, just like they insist the black national anthem be played at football games.

I'm with you on that, mostly because people who get the day off for juneteeth and then the 4th are going to see August as this void without a free day off.

Now to see if that day will be created by the feels left or the feels right. Either way, hopefully it'll be a Friday that way we all get a three day weekend.

Funny but Juneteenth was a big celebration in San Antonio on east side. I always thought it was local thing.

Juneteenth was not the end of slavery anywhere but in Galveston Texas. It wasn't over in Texas, it wasn't over in the Confederacy, it wasn't over in the Union and it wasn't over in the Tribes.

But the Left is rewriting history and claiming Galveston Texas was the final hold out of slavery everywhere in the country until the Yankees put a stop to it and poof! Slavery was over!

It's complete BS but it's BS with a sinister purpose of rewriting history to fit the Leftist narrative

I will always deeply mourn the fact that we had slavery. We will always pay immensely for the corners that some of our greedy forefather cut. Innocent people of today have to pay the prices for their sins. That;s the biggest injustice imo at this point.

I have had my car broken into three times in the last 20 yrs. I know so many people who have been victimized or brutalized. We pay taxes out the ass and there are huge societal costs all around. Roughly 4% commit 60% of the violent crimes. We will never stop paying for the sins of the slaveowners.

This is absurd logic. Americans fought and died by the hundreds of thousands to end slavery when it was common around the world. Generations later, it is still common in Africa, where American slaves originated. Since the Civil Rights Act, over $7 TRILLION has been spent on welfare in effort to give the black community a boost. Instead, black poverty, illiteracy, fatherless homes, and crime sky-rocketed. This is not innocent people of today paying the price for slave owners sins. Just like mass migration today, this is the Democrats entrapping a voting block by making them government departments.
