Politics related, because everything the government touches is over-priced, poor quality, and ridiculously slow.

WHY IS THE US POSTAL SERVICE SO AWFUL!?

Is anyone else to the point where I am going to stop using the postal service, including anything that I order. If I go to order something online and they don't ship with Fed Ex or UPS, I will email them and let them know I won't be ordering because of their shipping.

In College Station, we consistently get other people's mail and our neighbors consistently bring our mail and packages over.

Add to that, I've had at least 2 customer's checks for work done by my business, not even show up.

Add to that, we probably have missed 10 to 15 bills in the last year (Just never got them).

Add to that, we go out of town for a duration during the summers and our forwarded mail rarely shows up! I had a family member check our mailbox yesterday. Keep in mind we have had our mail forwarded for over 40 days. She found: Bills, personal letters, graduation invites. All of these things should be going to our forwarded address. What she didn't find? ANOTHER CUSTOMER'S CHECK. Not in my mailbox at the forwarded location either.

Add to that, I ordered a gift card for a worker that has done an outstanding job. It was for Primrose path and I did it online. For whatever reason, the company they use to handle gift cards is out of Austin. They mailed it out June 14th and it has yet to show up in College Station and its FIRST CLASS MAIL! The website says, "First Class Mail can take up to two weeks." ARE YOU KIDDING!?

Add to that, every time I have to go to the post office in the town we migrate to, it is an absolute "crap show" with people begging for lost mail and loads of problems. There is always a line. Our mail carrier refuses to deliver packages to our door because we have a cluster of mailboxes. Well, some packages don't fit. She is required according to the postal rules to deliver it to my door. She does not. I've complained and the postmaster is like, "yeah, she's like that". WHAAATT??!!

I try hard not to get violent when my neighbors and people I know (NOT MY FRIENDS) think that more government is the answer for anything. The US postal "Service" is just another example of what happens when there is zero accountability.

The USPS is terrible because there is no incentive for them to be better. In general if you are a go-getter that appreciates a job well done you won't work do the USPS. Having said that, I moved to a small town a few years ago and the employees at the post office are great! Friendly, helpful, and prompt. Very different from my experience with post offices in large urban areas

My father was in the USPS for 37 years and retired as a postmaster, although a long time ago. I remember him saying the one problem ruining the postal service was you couldn't fire ANYBODY, no matter how bad an employee was. Committing a felony was about the only way. When the poor workers started outnumbering the good workers, he hung it up.

Know of a postal worker that had like 50+ call-ins last year.

Untouchable.

Rural driver called in on OT said hey I'm tired of working all this extra, they said sorry, nothing we can do.

1) Unionized

2) No incentives to be good

3) Massive "**** up, promote up" culture creates abundance of crappy managers

4) DEI practices

5) Years of low morale due to crappy workers which dissuades good workers from applying.

They have thrown small packages in the rose bushes we have by the street so many times we literally check the rose bushes daily to make sure we don't miss anything.

Our local post office is pretty darn good, very helpful employees.

Relatives outside of Durango, CO, say don't mail them anything, it will never arrive.

When we first got a post office box in CS, we were told our mail would be posted by 10 am each day. That was true years ago. However, it has become steadily worse over the pasts 5 years and is now horrible since they moved all the operations to the Bryan PO. We receive the email telling us what mail is expected for that day, but, in reality, we don't expect it in our mailbox now until the next day. And yes, we've too have had a number of birthday cards and such that we mailed that were never delivered, particularly over the past 12 months.

The USPS in my city is full of angry Asian women who treat customers like errant school children.
The less said the better about the black women who work there. Always sarcastic and chip on their shoulders.

Awful experience going there.

No.
Then Fedex will increase the prices as you have no other place to go, then you are going to complain about that as well and will have no place to go.

And the government never works efficiently or effectively. Most mail is not necessary as the re are electronic means to get most information in the US. The problem is we have too many people who need government agencies and programs to fund the grift and fraud.

I recently ordered two name plates for my wife's Dad and my Dad's (both WWII Vets) flag displays. Stick in an envelope and mail. USPS Informed Delivery said it would be delivered on Friday, but it didn't make it. I looked at detailed tracking. It went from WA to Dallas to SA. Then Midland, Amarillo, Lubbock, Austin, SA, then my local post office.

About 30 yrs ago, my friend had just started at the post office (he had worked at the HEB Mailroom in their "Arsenal" prior to that). One night, their was a commotion and one of the people on the floor was caught smoking weed ON THE FLOOR. He was about to be suspended, when the union rep came in and stopped that nonsense. IIRC, dude got a slap on the wrist that was basically a 2week vacation.

He was floored. But their union ruins it like they all do.

I agree with you.

But my statement is also true that closing down USPS will not solve anything, it will make things worse as Fedex and UPS will get a duopoly and will fleece customers.

It's pretty rare these days that anything we order online comes via USPS. It's going to be UPS, FedEx, or a regional carrier about 95% of the time. The lone remaining advantage that USPS has over anyone else is that they deliver to all zip codes and no one else does.

Junk mail at my house gets delivered and looks pristine. Every greeting card envelope I receive has a torn corner or damaged envelope. So freaking obvious that they are checking for cash.

Need a Full Stop on the reduced price Non profit stamps And the Political Mail reduced price of postage.

These two things Double the amount of mail and swamp my box.

Everyone should pay Full Price. No Exceptions

Poor planning, slow to react...

Several years ago they went to a single master key being able to unlock EVERY mailbox in one or more ZIPCODES (for those that do get not get daily mail delivered to their residence.

As you would expect, those Master Keys were lost or sold to criminals, who now could open up every mailbox. And there was no plan to fix this, if it happened. Our master key worked over several zipcodes, and there was no way to replace it with a different master key.

Email. Fax, carrier pigeon any alternative no matter how bad could be an improvement.

We live in a new house in a new neighborhood, so of course we have the mail locker style letter box.

Just from memory, we have had at least four or five packages not arrive this year. in each case we have received an email and or text saying that the package was delivered. in each case we have gone to the local post office. In each case nothing has happened. In a few cases, my wife got a text. Message immediately walked to the box.

I don't care if it's incompetence or theft. I hate the USPS.

I deal with three smaller post offices, one much more than the other two. Their demographics are such that the last three postmasters at the main one I use were black (male, then female, then male). All had an entitlement attitude, worthless pieces of ***** Also, about 70 percent of the workers are black, probably 20% white, the other 10% Hispanic.

Last Christmas, where the post office did the final delivery on Amazon packages, the post office people would mark the delivery that the customer asked the package to be held at the post office. I would check my Amazon account and see that message time after time, even though I had made no such request. They were doing that to several people.

We built a house about a year and a half ago, rural property, and it took almost 3 months to consistently get mail. It took a couple of weeks to get anything at all.

I wish the post office would go out of business like they deserve.

The largest branch in our brokerage at the logistics company I work for, is the USPS branch. They get whatever rates they want. The government just says okay to any rate, without question. The margins they make are pure insanity. They don't seem to care about quality OR cost.

If capitalism were allowed to work, the USPS would disappear into bankruptcy.

FedEx could continue to increase their rates and give lousy service.
Then some enterprising persons would create a new delivery services that would provide better service for less cost. If FedEx would refuse to adapt to the new competition then they would also disappear into bankruptcy.

The problem is that the government through the USPS subsidies and irrational employment requirements continues to exist and government and union requirements kill competition, thereby allowing big, inefficient corporations to keep going with increasingly poor service while charging higher prices.

USPS currently has a monopoly on letters and they do a horrible job.

FedEx and UPS can't screw it up much worse.

And we certainly have other places to go. I don't think I've sent a personal letter (outside of cards) since I graduated from A&M and my (now) wife was still there. All calls, texts, and emails now. If I wanted to send a written letter, I'd scan it into a PDF file

My brother in law retired from his career, got bored, and got a job at a post office in Austin. He said NOBODY did any work except him. The manager would beg and plead and they told him to f off and there was nothing he could do. They had one carrier who just didn't feel like delivering her mail and was dumping it in Town Lake. He said when they found out they had to go down, rake the mail out of the lake, and lay it out in the parking lot to dry. He finally quit. It's a wonder anything gets where it is supposed to go.
