Idiot with the phone is lucky he only got a beat down...

AND the paster was only defending himself - the idiot punched first.

WE NEED MORE MEN LIKE THIS!

Nothing about that was befitting of a pastor.

The video does not show whatever preceded that, so, sure, he was defending himself after the initial punch, but after he got the other dude to the ground, he repeatedly punched the dude in the back of the head, pulled his hair break, and then when he turned to walk away, he second-guessed his decision and kicked the guy in the face.

Totally cool with self defense, but the pastor went completely overboard here.

Christian pastors are supposed to represent Christ...nothing about that video was Christlike.

ETA: Responded after watching the video and before I read the rape threats. I still think the pastor went overboard, but understand the reaction better, if that is legitimate.

Eh. I think the more I deep dive the wussification of the church, the more I think most Americans misundetstand how much we are supposed to take.

Turn the other cheek: that's about insults, not letting someone physically hurt you.

Another example, when the disciples went out and preached, if the town did not repent, they were told to shake the dust off of their sandals as a sign that the town was set for destruction (my paraphrases)

Christians are not supposed to be door mats. Also, Christians are humans and can be controlled by any of the vices anyone else can be. Im guessing this pastor was controlled by rage at the moment. Im not saying it's right.......but I understand #Chrisrock

There is a LOT lost in the translation. Life Tabernacle Church teaches from the authoritative King James Version of the Bible. Here's how you should be reading it.

Quote:

And it came to pass in the land of Louisiana, that a certain pastor was accused of smiting his neighbor, who didst cast forth vile oaths and did threaten to defile and put to death his wife, as the two did wrestle nigh unto the house of the Lord.

Now Tony, being a shepherd of the flock of Life Tabernacle Church, and having lived forty and eight years, was delivered unto the authorities for the smiting of his neighbor's son, who was but twenty years of age, as was told by the keepers of tidings.

The pastor was tending to the battery of the chariots of the church's school when he was assailed with wicked words from yonder side of the four-lane road in the city of Baton Rouge.

"Verily, the man spake unto me, saying, 'Tony, I shall lay with thy wife, and I shall lay with all the children of thy children, and when thou next goest on a journey, I shall put them to death,'" Tony did proclaim on the third day of the week.

And Tony spake, saying, "I am bound by duty to shield my household."

"First, I am a husband; second, I am a father; and third, I am a shepherd of the flock," he declared. "I shall not suffer a man to slay my offspring whilst I am absent from my dwelling."

Images captured by the keepers of tidings did show Tony crossing over unto the son of his adversary, Scott by name, ere he delivered a mighty smiting upon the grass before the eyes of those passing by in their chariots.

Tony did smite the man eight times, and thereafter did wrestle him to the ground, where he delivered seven and twenty blows more, leaving the man in need of five stitches for his chin.

He also was accused of twisting the man's neck and kicking him in the side.

"I shall break thy neck," the pastor was said to have threatened.

For these deeds, Tony was charged with a grievous assault and could be cast into prison for as many as eight years.

Tony was commanded to appear before the judges on the fifteenth day of the ninth month, and did vow, "The truth shall be revealed in the court of law."

He spake unto his congregation at Life Tabernacle Church of the altercation and likened it unto "terror within the household." He also called upon the scripture from the Gospel of Mark, chapter sixteen, verse eighteen.

"In my name, they shall lay their hands upon the sick, and they shall be made whole," he spake unto them.

"And so on this day, I have fulfilled the scripture. I laid my hands upon the sick. I know not how much healing they shall receive, but I have laid my hands upon the sick."

Problem with society today is people think they can say or do just about anything without consequences. Sounds like this guy got we he deserves. A good old fashioned ass beating.

The wussification starts with wrong translations of the word ENEMY and continues from there. Entire groups of believers went to their deaths because of it.

I am all for ass whooping.

The reason kids are out of control is a lack of it.

I administered the right level of ass whooping to both my kids, girl and boy up until a certain age. It works better on boys than girls. With girls you need to talk to them as pain doesn't convince them like it does boys.

The punk made a terroristic threat towards the pastor's wife and family, then he initiated mutual combat by swinging at the pastor. The punk idiot should be charged with the threat, convicted and sentenced accordingly. That is my ruling.

I don't think Jesus was punching people in the back of the head and kicking them in the face when they were on the ground, but we may have different translations of the Bible

How would you know? There a lots of different translations for words in the bible, such as the word enemy. Which is often translated wrongly to mean what we think of as an enemy today. When it actually referred to a brother or member of the community, not someone who wants to do you harm.

Entire doctrines are based off of false translations, particularly pacifist ones

What in the Bible could have been lost in translation to indicate Jesus was punching people in the back of the head repeatedly? I'm curious.

Who said it did?

I said I do not think Jesus was punching people in the back of the head.

You go on to ask how I would know and talk about their being numerous translations of the Bible.

Your post seems to indicate something like that was lost in translation in the Bible.

I was referring to his life and I standby that. How would you know he was around a few decades, but it doesn't matter.. I support the pastor beating him and no I wouldn't support a Muslim doing the same thing because Islam as a cancer

whatever, he barely did anything to this bum. did not kick him in the face. also the bum instigated it but didn't retreat, apologize or defend himself.

It looked like he kicked him in the face at the end. Maybe he connected with the shoulder. Hard to tell.

you know he didn't. point being if he feels that entitled and embolden by reading the NYT maybe he should get their help with self defense as well

Absolutely it was Christ like

Of how liberals dictate to Christians what the Bible says when they don't know the Bible

What did King David do? Killed a lot of bad people including Goliath

Joshua at jericho.

In fact God had the Israelites take out a couple Philistine cities completely because everybody in that village was demon possessed and that would mean the kids had a chance in heaven because they were not at the age of accountability. Because God is a merciful god that doesn't mean you don't use righteous judgment

What did Abraham do when lot and his family were kidnapped?

What did the brothers of Jacob do when their their sister Dinah got raped

Oh but Jesus said turn the cheek he's talking about being persecuted for your beliefs he's not talking about having your life threatened

The Maccabees fought a revolution against the Roman army

There's a time to fight

Young Sherwin should have read the 9-0 SCOTUS decision of Chaplinsky v New Hampshire. Then he would have understood that the ass beating he was inviting with his fighting words would not be a crime under the fighting words doctrine.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaplinsky_v._New_Hampshire

A whole lot of FAFO happens because of ignorance of the Chaplinsky decision.
