The FO was in tank mode but the staff and players themselves were not. That was made obvious in the final game of the season.

You really think Tunsil was looking for a raise while at the same time purposely tanking putting out bad tape?

If the Texans draft Bryce Young as expected, they should draft best defender at 12, then Bama RB Gibbs at 33 or best TE Kincaid or Meyer. If they get a TE, then grab Devon Achane instead of Gibbs. Add a center and then the rest can be defense or BPA.

If John Metchie returns this year Young would have Metchie and Gibbs as familiar targets.

If we end up with Stroud, I would go with the Ohio St WR and Achane instead of Gibbs.

kind of lukewarm on the Tunsil signing.

the Texans won 4 games and 3 games the last 2 seasons with this "one of the best at his positions" left tackle.

how big of a difference maker is he?

at least it's only a 3-year deal
It is possible to be a really good player on a really bad team. At worst, Tunsil is a very good player at a very important position, particularly when you are developing a quarterback and you want to keep his uniform relatively clean. The fact that it is only a three-year deal should keep him motivated to continue performing at a high level so he can get another big contract down the road. Offensive linemen tend to age pretty well, so he should get paid again if he keeps Bryce or CJ upright for the next three years.

I'm saying I think Tunsil earned his contract while there were a bunch of Jags and a coaching staff that couldn't coach their way out of a paper bag. I don't think it was an honest effort to be the best team, collectively, though I agree individually players and coaches might have been motivated.

It'd be like giving Dale Earnhardt a Honda Civic - he can still be a great driver and trying to win, but collectively it is designed to fail.

Keeping Tunsil pretty much means we are going with QB at 2.

Singletary on a prove it deal, is a great addition. He is a great running back with very little wear on him since he was in the pass heavy bills offense. He will end up surpassing Pierce as the #1 back.

We actually have a respectable talent level offensively now. No true #1 WR and obviously have to figure out the QB, but otherwise pretty solid across the board.

Adding Singletary and Schultz to this team are great signings. A proven veteran TE and another quality RB, nice work. Extending Tunsil, getting rid of a disgruntled and overpaid WR. Caserio is making good moves here, he is building around our future QB.

This is the way.

Huh? Pierce ran for almost 1000 yards?

Wow, no joke. These are great moves and setup well for whatever QB we take in the draft.

Not sure what we're going to do about WR, there's really not a bonafide #1 in the draft so maybe we look at a trade, or go the deep threat burner in round 2.

But the good news is that with these signings they can actually protect the QB, develop the QB, and showcase the offensive scheme this year. That last one is big as it will allow them to attract free agents and make determinations on current and new player long term deals next year.

The point of last season wasn't to maximize players, it was to accumulate as best draft capital as we could without purposefully losing. Can't really judge a team that is clearly tanking.
Until the last game of the year, right?!

Pierce and Singletary will be great! I was hoping they would get a big upgrade over Rex to limit the mileage on Pierce.

I could see them waiting until the mid rounds to pick a WR. We still have Metchie who is effectively a rookie. But they're in a good spot now. They can grab a guy if he falls, or wait until later.

Pass rusher, center, and CB look like the big needs past #2 right now. They'll probably draft a TE too, as is tradition. Then just BPA. They've positioned themselves well.

Seeing a lot of WR at 12 but I'd rather go OL. Really a trade down would be ideal. That second looks prime for a TE.

I don't get OL there. That would surprise me.

WR wouldn't surprise me, but we also added 2 free agent WRs plus hopefully get Metchie back.

DL/pass rusher makes the most sense to me and where I think the best value will be. There are 11 picks in front of us. 4 will likely be QBs. Barring a huge run in DL/pass rushers, there should be a good one available when we pick.

So did the whispers of DHop back in Houston dissipate?

I wouldn't take a WR in the first round. This WR class is weak and the best guys are mostly small and project more as a good # 2 receiver or slot. As long as Metchie is expected to play, I have zero interest in Addison, JSN or Flowers. I like Johnston's size/athleticism and Hyatt's speed, but I don't think either will be a #1 receiver. Don't want either at 12, but maybe if they fell to the second round.

With Schultz and Singletary on board, I probably don't take a TE or RB until Day 3 , which saddens me a little because I love this TE class and I think there are some real RB values in the middle rounds.

They currently have five picks in the first two days, and one will be a QB. One needs to be a center. Other than that I'm thinking DL and LB.. Would love it if Drew Sanders lasted until the second round.

Would love to trade back from 12 and add another Day 2 pick.

And singletary ran over 800 on a pass heavy team that played in 16 games instead of 17. And looking at stats he was on pace for a 100 yards or more the "17th" that wasn't played.

Singletary is the best rb on this roster currently. He's averaged 4.7 yards/attempt, throughout his career.

Had pierce not gotten hurt he would have had 1200 easy. Just dont see singletary taking over as rb1. Maybe its 1a and 1b but devin isnt someone that can take 20-30 carries a game with his body type. He is far better than rex. Maybe we do more 2 down backs
redag06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Devin absolutely can take 20+ carries a game, he's just never been given that opportunity since he split the backfield with a qb that was also rb2.

His measurables are near identical to Maurice jones drew and this other guy you may have heard of Barry Sanders, don't think anybody worried about him having more than 20 carries with his build.

Guess we will see. If he is that good just curious why the bills let him walk? Think pierce had the most yards
After being hit. He is a violent runner. Guess i just like what he brings to the table and could see him getting more carries (not by much) than devin

Pierce is still 1st choice on 1st and depending on scenario 2nd down no doubt about it. Devin will be the 3rd down/1st or 2nd and long passing down guy. If we have 30 RB carries in a game I would see that being like 18/12 in favor of pierce but the overall play time 55/45 in favor of singletary.

If the Texans draft Achane, they will have Damien, Devon and Devon as their primary backs. All three would play a lot in the new offense. Nice problem to have.

So our offensives depth chart looks something like this right now:

QB - Young / Stroud (assumption)
RB - Pierce
WR - Woods / Metchie
WR - Collins / Rodgers
WR - Brown
TE - Schultz / Quitoriano
FB - Beck
LT - Tunsil
LG - Green
C - TBD
RG - Mason
RT - Howard

That's a much better line up from last year depending upon the QB play we get.

Apparently we signed a center yesterday too. Michael Deiter from Miami. He has starting experience at both OG and C, but is probably a depth guy. Didn't start for Miami last year. Still nice for depth though.

I suspect the Singletary signing means we won't be taking a running back in the area (2nd or 3rd round) where Achane is likely to go. If he somehow fell to Day 3, maybe, but he is too good to last that long.

Even peak Jonathan Ogden wouldn't have been good enough to make up for The mess that has surrounded him the last 2 seasons.

You've really got to judge him only on what he has done at his position and all false start jokes aside, he's been very good.

Looks like they signed Harris for half the cost of Singletary.
