Troy Walters
Why would they not make it public? It gives them credibility that they actually know what they're doing.bilbobag said:
This will never become public but give a big shout out to Mrs. McNair. She was a big fan DeMeco when he was drafted and has kept in touch with DeMeco ever since his departure from Houston.
I can't tell how good it is to have him home!

No lie, I'm so pumped about this. And to think there ended up being a team that had limited draft capital because of a bad trade for a player, who double downed and traded even more to get a potentially washed up coach.....and it wasn't us. The fact that we're no longer the team desperately trying to hold on to "what could have been" and instead the team who has the top young and upcoming coach, with a **** ton of draft picks, and all kinds of cap space. Been nothing but a **** sandwich since with the massage enthusiast demanding a trade and our general lack of looking like an actual professional sports franchise.Sea Speed said:Ag_07 said:
I feel very odd being excited over a Texan decision.
I honestly don't recall the last time this thread has had a positive vibe to it and people have been excited about something the Texans have done.
This feels like a ray of sunshine compared to the recent past.

As it should be, pep should've been fired with culley.
But I'm not sold this hire is the right hire. Sure it's going to get the fanbase excited, and sell tickets, but it won't win any ire games than culley won.
Defensive coaches aren't the way to go in 2023. One defensive minded coach was in the playoffs this year, and IF, you have a good OC they will be hired away, which isn't good for the development of your rookie qb.
If you hire an offensive minded HC, the offensive scheme is retained.
We're are gonna be young on that staff, but I'm happy bringing the 49ers or the Cincinnati offense with DeMeco.Max Power said:

In the NFL, there's the "right" way to do things and there's the "Texans" way to do things. This hire is the first thing the Texans have done in the non-Texans way in a long time.Ag_07 said:
Like I've said Demeco may fall flat on his ass and be an awful HC. But this search was a thorough wide search where they brought in multiple high quality coaches for multiple interviews.
At the end of the day they ended up with arguably the best candidate on the market who multiple teams wanted.
Omenihu was arrested for domestic violence within the last two weeks so we might want to steer clear of him coming back to Houston, but Jimmie Ward would be a good addition.IrishAg said:
So 49er free agents on the defensive side of the ball:
S Jimmie Ward
LB Azeez Al-Shaair
DL Charles Omenihu
DL Jordan Willis
CB Emmanuel Moseley
I could see us going after Jimmie Ward to help be an on the field coach to get everyone in the correct spot. He would be pricey, but he would be a good get for 3 or so years to help with the long term transition to DeMeco's defense.
Thoughts?
There are some rumors about Klay coming as a QB coach, but I bet it would depend on who gets the OC spotBillYeoman said:
Any chance DR brings Klay Kubiak with him from San Fran?

Also, more food for thought, it looks like Jimmy G is definitely leaving San Fran this offseason. I wonder if he's someone we sign to a short team deal if we go the route of bringing the San Fran offense over? He would be a good stop gap for a year or 2 who could actually hep install the offense while we build talent, then we could grab a QB to move forward.
