Ranking up makes things way harder. At rank 7 I'm winning 2-4 battles. Haven't gone 5-0 in a bit. I think overall I'm 54-16 or something like that

Yep. If you can get power up punches off against a registeel, you can take him down quick. Even if they block, the power up jacks up your attack and quick attacks start to murder him.

This is one of the many things I don't like about this system. Luck of the draw plays too big of a role.

Decided to switch it up and add a clefable to my lineup. I was a little too exposed to fighting types, and medicham was killing me. Also wanted a beret counter for the ever popular altaria. Did great in two matches. The first match I didn't even bring out my vigoroth because hitmonchan and clefable wrecked shop.

The second I got a little screwed on timing and typing in the first match. Had hitmonchan against a swampert. Ground typing had me basically neutral, and he got off a lot of attacks. By the time I knocked it out, he'd knocked out my hitmonchan and was halfway through vigoroth, but he used both shields. Then he brought out an umbreon and was killing me with charge moves. I brought out clefable and BAM! charm just blew it away. Then he brought out a cherrim. Lucky for me, dazzling gleam was almost fully charged, and he was out of shields. After 3 quick attacks I blew him away.

Skarmory does pretty good against altaria. Especially if you have a shield left to use on his attack.

Double fighting Polywrath has been a nice Hitmontop substitute.

Wow, I am not competitive at this battle stuff. Started 9-1. Thought I was doing pretty good. Eventually graduated to lv4, and went 1-14. LOL. My biggest problem is that I still don't know the matchup bonuses... What Is a mom's weakness. I got destroyed in a couple, but all the other losses go down to the wire. I have lost many by just a couple quick attacks. Frustrating, but oh well, it is fun.

Also, I don't have anything really good. For example, my best right now is a Zapdos, but he is ranked like 70 on that rankings list. My recent team is the Zapdos and then a Heatmor and a Lapras. The Zap has charge beam and Drill Peck. He will use up some blocks. However, they will switch to some ground attacker, I will switch to Lapras, but she don't got it.

Level 4 kicked my ass too.

The lists are based on simulations. What works is truly dependent on what other people are throwing out there. You can have the top three, but if someone has a type advantage over them, you'll probably lose. Same for shielding and switching. Sometimes it's better to take a hit when you're long at neutral damage and save the shield for when you have a type disadvantage. With switching, you want to try to make the other guy switch first. That way you can switch and establish a type mismatch that he can't get out of thanks to the timer.

I have done good with switching at the right time. My problem is I am so new that I just don't know all of the mon and what is their type. I also don't know the advantages and disadvantages by memory yet.

Also, as a general aside, the lists of top pvp mons have a glaring weakness: They're calculated on all possible matchups, not likely matchups. This is where Bayesian stats eats frequentists' lunch.

The frequentist approach says we don't know anything about each battle beforehand, so we should take in a team that is the strongest across all possible matchups. Against random matchups, we should regress to the mean and win x% of the time.

The Bayesian approach says we DO know something about each battle beforehand, so we should tailor our team to the most likely matchups we'll see, not all possible matchups. The most likely matchups are deoxys defense form, azumaril, altaria, registeel, medicham, and bastiodon. Take in a team designed to defeat those more often than not in average, and you increase your odds of winning.

The Bayesian approach is, to me, the best because battle lineups are not random, which is a basic assumption of the frequentist approach. They are heavily biased towards the Pokemon on pvp lists, and the Bayesian approach bakes that bias in to take advantage of it. The only drawback is that as opponents accurately catch on, we need to adjust to the new, most common teams in the same way.

Another problem I have...If I took a test and random pokemon were shown to me, I might get 10% of their types correct. This will come in time. Some of you have 4 years more experience than myself.

I really wish they would created a special TM you could use for community day charge moves. They could make it a premium reward.

By reviewing. Every 100 agreements in Wayfarer gets you an upgrade to use on one of your nominations. It doesn't affect going from In Queue to In Voting, but once it's In Voting, it gets priority. My nominations take maybe a week on average, though I did just get a record turnaround of 48 hours.

There was a dead zone for nominations made roughly 12/24 to 1/4 that still aren't being treated correctly, it seems. Lots of people are reporting them as being In Voting for weeks, even as their later submissions go through. I still have one like that. Maybe that's what's up with yours? (But even if not, a month without upgrades isn't unusual at all).

No telling what it will be. It might be worth the trouble.

The battle system makes me want to delete this app. It's 50% connections, 49% first Pokmon type match up, and 1% skill/team composition.

I saw one. Fun to see on screen, but pretty meh.

I don't get why they hyped up the spotlight hour just to put out a Pokmon they've mass released in events before. Hopefully a trial run for future roll outs of cooler Pokmon.
