That gym, the John David Crow statue gym and the north entrance of Reed Arena gym should all be pretty interesting on game days.
If campus isn't totally pink on game days due to lure modules, I'll be disappointed

Nintendo stock surged $10 this weekend from $20 to $30 per share. Now at $27.

1 year anniversary of Iwata's passing is today.

gym leader at Kyle field. No big deal.

You're about 2000 CP behind all of the gym leaders that I've seen. Must be nice to be a big dog!
The gyms out by me in Cypress are all in the 200-600 CP range.

Trust me I know. This morning there were 2 trainers in charge of this gym, the leader had a CP 500 pinsir.

Very lucky

At the bank of port-o-potty's at Reed:

"Are you in line?"
"No I'm trying to take this gym over."

On a side note, advertising on campus will be interesting this year. Set up at a Pokestop, set a lure module, and promote your whatever. Any current student who is reading this, you're welcome.

West Alabama Ice House in Houston was running that play all afternoon yesterday. Probably 20 nerds sitting around cranking Lone Star and catching Pokemon.

Reveille's Twitter is in on it.

(A few days old, but didn't see it posted here.)

I think a food truck did this yesterday where I was.

I'm curious -- does anyone know how poke stops/gyms are determined (or I guess were determined) and do you think these locations could change in the future?

Most of the existing ones are recycled "portals" from Ingress, I think (which I never even knew existed before pokemon go). I'd bet there is room for new stops/gyms in the future as the game collects statistics

They were built off the portals in the game Ingress. There were open submissions that closed over a year ago because they couldn't control the quality. It was supposed to be art installations, mom&pop bars and restaurants, landmarks, etc. But there have been some things in my area built in the last year that are stops so someone had to submit them. I've heard if you submit a help request to Niantic about a certain neighborhood or stop, they may turn it into something. I'm considering submitting to see if they'll turn our neighborhood pool into a gym because currently you either have to cross a tollway or a 4 road parkway to get to the closest gym.

I am going to submit my house as a gym, become the leader, then take on all challengers. However I do need someone to volunteer to stand outside my house and give really ****ty encouragement to all challengers. I am also working on some type of maze or elaborate walk through to reach gym battle range.

They won't allow them in residential areas other than parks for this reason. Some people get lucky if they live in apartments or townhomes near stuff.

Just evolved my 2nd Eevee.... Got another Jolteon. I've read a few days ago it was random. Anyone read otherwise?

As far as I know, it is random. I've evolved two, gotten a Jolteon and a Vaporeon.

i don't know anything about pokemon, other than the chinpokomon south park from waaaay back.

Do these things pop up only in public spaces, or can they show up on private property? If i live on a farm outside of college station, am i gonna have people running through the corn field at all hours of the night?

If this game turns out to be as popular as it is looking like, the game developer may have just stumbled into one of the most brilliant revenue models for an app-based game ever.

Think about it: every pediatrician's office would want at least a poke stop with a lure in their waiting room. Same for bars, restaurants, stores, etc. The subscriber base for poke stops and gyms are businesses looking for another draw for users. For a nominal monthly fee (just spitballing -- $5 for a pokestop, $10 with a lure, $15-20 for a gym), businesses could effectively subscribe at different levels to have a feature located on their premises.

All of a sudden, you're generating revenue without having to ask your player base for it and another subscriber base gets another layer of customer draw -- you're basically selling advertising space that people will consume.

The poke stop + lure seemed to work really well at West Alabama Ice House yesterday.

Heard on the radio this morning: there is a guy that bought a house which was an old church. It is designated as a church on some maps so it was tagged as a Pokestop. He gets visitors at all hours outside of this house.

They'd basically already have that if they would just let you drop a lure anywhere instead of it having to be at a pokestop.

It's actually even better than that. His house is a gym. You can click this and read his whole thread. He has some fascinating questions about the potential uses and problems for a game like this.

I've definitely noticed more traffic outside our house lately since our neighbor's historical marker is a PokeStop.
Can't imagine what it would be like if it was a gym.

Kind of annoying that the game does not give you credit for distance traveled while the screen is off. I ran 5 mi but only got credit for about 4km because I let the screen go dark for part of the run to conserve battery. I did successfully capture several creatures at a decent running pace.

Did you have it on power saving mode? When you do that, turn your phone upside down and the screen goes dim but the game is supposed to still be running.

I'm sure they will address this in a future update. They have to have the capability to do it since they will be selling that watch thing that will alert when one is nearby.

i guarantee you they will do this. they let you sign in with your google account, which probably means that they have access to your search history, which means that they can target businesses and say X number of pokemon players buy Y product online, you could lure them into your store for only $Z.

Hopefully they make it so you can pull in distance from a fitness tracker or your phone's pedometer
