I can't imagine the amount of film I would waste trying to get one good shot.

I have an immense amount of respect for those of you who do it for a living, digital or film you still have to habe an eye for it.

Thank goodness it's just a hobby.

Film is cheap in comparison to chemicals and photo papers. Also, using film, it's like taking pictures twice, once with a camera and once with an enlarger.

5 years ago, I spent 9 hours in my laundry room / darkroom and got about 3 good black and white pictures. That was it. Nonsense. Gave all my darkroom crap to a buddy and sold off all my Hasselblad and Pentax Medium Format film cameras.

I don't miss it.

I have a question about pricing photographs. I have a buddy that has been playing in a musical group for some time now. They play various gigs in the area, mostly a few bars and restaurants playing older rock and blues type music. I have gone to some of their gigs in the past and taken some photos, just for fun and as a favor for them to use on social media.

Today he texted me and said they are trying to put together an album to upload to a website called "CD Baby". He wants to use some of my photos, and said I would get photo credit, and would need to sign a release of the images for the website. Also, he wants to know how much I would charge for them.

I have pretty much no idea how much I should/could charge. I originally took the photos just for fun. I'm not looking to get rich off of this. Thoughts, anyone?

I hate to say it, but I don't either.

HOWEVER, if I were going to shoot weddings I'd still be using all that. I'd market the hell out of "film is better..." and charge a lot more than most.

There are a handful of people that do that.

Their quality of images is not up to par with the top digital guys.

Plus they have to put a lot of restrictions in their contracts about when portraits have to be done and stuff.

You should be able to find some release agreements online. If you can, put a small mark on the bottom side of the photo with your name (in script, if nothing else). I'd charge relative to what they're going to make by doing that project -- starting with $25.

With all that, you might pick up a side gig doing that for bands. If you don't want to, you can always turn them down when they call, but if you don't do the above, you won't have that option later.

Here is an interesting thought.

Digital Back for old film SLR

Even then, I'm not sure I'd go back. I enjoy auto focus and quite frankly I"m not sure old lenses can produce image quality of modern lenses.

I have purchased many new and used items from Adorama without any problems.

Adorama has an optional 2 year warranty on used lenses and it is well priced.

How often are you down there? I don't have the dates yet, but I've got to make one more trip to that area sometime soon (parents are looking to move and I plan on helping them pack one weekend). If our schedules work out and you think this is something you want to learn, I'd be happy to meet you there and we can shoot your house together.

The photos aren't terrible, but if you want to shoot your own, I can show you how to get around some of the problem areas. Dark walls and windows, gritty texture, reflections on cabinets, blown out windows and lamps, crooked vertical lines - all easy to fix.

Your drone work is good. I don't do video work, so no clue there.

Are you interested in trading a weekend stay at the Galveston house for shots? We have an opening this coming weekend. It's not free on my part all the way, I'm still paying a $150 cleaning fee (included in the offer). Up to 3 nights.

I'm still going to get a camera to practice & have fun, but we could use some professional ones ASAP since we've updated so much.

Picked up a refurbished nikon d3400 kit with a 2nd 70-300 lense from amazon for $450. Pretty excited to get into shooting photos outside of my phone. Has been a hobby I've wanted to get into since I was young.

This thread helped me decide between mirrorless and dslr (for entry level budget) and helped educate me. Thanks nerdery

Any recommendations on specific products and youtube videos on how to clean my d7000 sensor?

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/435203-REG/Visible_Dust_2863171_Swabs_for_1_5_1_6x_Sensor.html
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/439051-REG/Visible_Dust_2291205_1_Sensor_Clean_Solution.html

I was going to get these swabs and solution. I already have a rocket blaster and I was not going to order a sensor loupe. I've tried locking the mirror up and using the rocket blaster but I think the sensor needs to be wet cleaned.

That's a very generous offer. Unfortunately, I'm scheduled to shoot in Austin this weekend. I'd still love to help out somewhere down the road if you don't find someone soon.

After dipping my toes into the Olympus m4/3 world and being underwhelmed, I'm reserved about doing it again...but I've continuously heard nothing but praise for the X-T2 and the higher end Fuji lenses.

I'm surprised to hear a full time landscape photog is using a non weather sealed body and a crop sensor.

I know I've seen tripod recs on here, but can someone tell me a little more about what I should get? Flexible budget, but do not want to spend $500+ kind of money. Hopefully it would travel easily (airplanes, etc.).

Any specific models?

There are lots of YT videos. Find the one that you want to do and buy the stuff they used.

I've never used that stuff, so I couldn't recommend a video that shows how using it.

Rocket Blower has always been enough for me on the Canons, barely have to use it now that the sensors self clean.

I want to shoot sports. Specifically, high school and middle school for my district. Indoor and outdoor. I know a little, and I also know I know nothing when it comes to really using my camera for the best shots possible.

The biggest issue I have is image blur. Even when using a tripod, a monopod, and holding my breath. The VRs get 1 out of 8 shots in crystal clear focus.

Learn to shoot in manual mode. You need a shutter speed at a very, very minimum of 1/500th, but you really want it to be 1/800th or faster.

You want to be in focus mode AF-C and learn how to use back button focus.

Night games, you prob won't have enough light with those lenses to really shoot it.

The 70-300 and 70-300 are really similar. Dump the one you don't like. Same with the 18-105 and 18-135.

Thanks! What lens would be better for night games? I looked into the 70-200mm 2.8, but I'll need to do more research and learn more before dropping that kind of dough.

I would replace both 70-300s with a 70-200. Just a great all-around lens that I would recommend to anyone.

To shoot well, sports (especially youth sports with crap lighting) are very expensive. You need to reach far and you need a lens that lens in a lot of light. That combo = $$$$$$
