What were the selling points of the Fuji system for you? I made the switch to Canon over the holidays, selling my D7200 and all of my Nikon gear in favor of the 6DMkII. So far I havnt had any regrets but it might take a while before I'm completely familiar with it. The high ISO/low light performance is incredible, however it is my first full frame so I don't really have an accurate comparison

Body size/weight and 4K video were the main two drivers, along with all of the exposure controls being dial based instead of menu based.

All of those boxes are checked by the Fuji, but the rest of the system is leaving me wanting. Even simple things like taking lenses off the body is awkward because of all the rotating rings on Fuji lenses and the weird release button placement.

And yeah, coming from full frame, I just miss the way the sensor can consume light.

I don't know of a serious video shooter who uses the internal mic for audio anyway, it's not good on any camera. Not saying the rest of your points aren't valid but I doubt the 6DII's internal mic would be any better/worse.

Whoa. Why would you do that over getting a D750?

This is true. Always have a separate mic.

Pretty much all cameras have yeah on board mics

Regarding video, I'm not making movies over here, but if I want a home video with some nice bokeh, I want at least cell phone quality audio. The Fuji is not even on that level, and the original 6D audio was actually quite nice, even outdoors.

I see zero compelling reasons to be interested in the Nikon vs the Canon, to be honest, and comfort with the Canon system is a selling point for the 6DMkII.

I'll likely stick with the Fuji for another few months before I jump ship, and see if I get past a few of the growing pain issues.

In a perfect world I'd just get a 5DMkIV and be done.

I switched because I wanted to do more video and have more lens compatibility. When I first started I was using all of my moms lenses that were Nikon that she had used on old Nikon F bodies, so that's naturally what I bought. I still think Nikon is the best at pure photography, but once I got my feet wet with photos I wanted to explore video more. My girlfriend already had a compact MFT camera and I bought a Panasonic to shoot video with, but the issue is I can't use a speed booster and still have autofocus and aperture data with Nikon lenses

Long story short, I was passed down Nikon lenses to start with but then realized Canon would better suit my needs so I switched before I had too much Nikon glass

While the size isn't an issue for me, the lack of 4K video almost deterred me. The only reason it didn't is that I have a different body that I use primarily for video.

Gotta say, the X-T2 isn't really clicking with me. Been quite disappointed with its higher ISO performance and low light focusing. Audio in videos is so bad with the stock mic that taking videos is almost pointless. Electronic manual focus vs analog is actually pretty annoying. Battery life is miserable. Editing RAW files in Lightroom isn't possible due to Adobe's handling of RAF files. The mobile app takes AGES to move files over to the phone. The list goes on.

What it DOES have over the old 6D is some increased portability and great lens sharpness. Much better continuous AF performance as well.

Really debating getting a 6D MKII instead at this point. I'm not sure the positives of the Fuji system outweigh my pain points.

Why not Adobe DNG converter to process Fuji Raw to DNG that can be uses in Light room?

Watched quite a few videos on the subject that complained that it drastically shifted colors in the process. Never gave it a go, but I might.

Honestly don't process RAWs very often, but when I do, I'd prefer to use LR. I tried Capture One 11 and it's quite nice in terms of power, but the interface looks like a high schooler cobbled it together.

You're still using LR. But you first convert Fuji RAW to DNG using Adobe DNG Converter.

I use PS CS6. And with the last update, I'm able to process Canon 5DSR RAW. But I can't process Olympus RAW. So I have to convert it to DNG. Have not noticed any color degradation.

That being said, I think I'm going to keep u43 line for majority of my needs including video because it's just darn too cost effective and portable.

But I'm sure I'll swap my Canon to Sony one day. Mirrorless.

I need to clarify my statement.

I can process most Olympus and Panasonic RAW files in my CS. It's my latest Olympus, E-M1 mark II files I can't. I assume I won't be able to with the later Panasonic Cameras.

I couldn't process Sony a6300 RAW either, so I would think all of the latest Sony RAWs, I wouldn't be able to.

But I can convert them to DNG files.

I'm wanting to graduate up to my first DSLR from a high quality Sony point and shoot. I'm familiar with the basics of aperture, ISO, etc. but definitely not wanting to mortgage for a camera. I do want more capability that my point and shoot provides. There are way too many camera choices/options. Any recommendations? wi-if built in seems handy to upload quickly to iPad or such. Thoughts on a Nikon D5600 vs D7200? What am I getting for the extra $300 or so? TIA

Primarily I'd like the ability to upgrade zoom lenses for wildlife/nature shots. I've also noticed it tends to want to auto focus other areas than what I am trying to shoot. I can change the focal point options, but it's rather a pain. Easier aperture play would be nice, low light shooting, etc.

Low light shooting is a lens that will cost more than the camera.

I'm no pro but this is good enough for me. Plenty of positive comments from team families. What I need to work on is taking the pics over cheering for the team.

Business question

I've been asked to take photos of a ski race (amateur kids) at the ski mountain in town. I'm a portrait/nature photog and not done anything like this before and don't know how to charge for it. Not wanting to sound unprofessional I don't want to ask the mountain what others have done. Is this something where you just take photos and post a gallery for parents to buy photos? Do I charge the mountain a fee and also post a gallery? Do everything for free and let "exposure" be my reward (LOL)? Any guidance?

Be prepared to get one tiny sale at most. People are going to just screencap/download and never buy.

If this is how they do it, yes. You want to be guaranteed money to show up.

I'm excited about that lens but realistically will never get one, I don't have $10k to spend on a lens.

Those fall under oddly satisfying photos with both the amount of gear and everything perfectly placed in-line

Why bring ANY gear then?

You aren't at the Olympics GS?

Don't watermarks deter this?

Watermarks don't deter. I use them mainly to keep people from using commercially.

People will bring all their own gear but they tend to go crazy with remotes.

For long glass, I have a 400 2.8 and a 200f2 but maybe I need an 800mm or 600mm, so Nikon would loan it to me. Plus I've only got four bodies right now, so I might want a few more for a particular event to get different looks for remotes.

Canon loaned me a 800 and a 600 at the Kentucky Derby when I shoot that for si.

I stopped shooting for wire services in 14, so I'm not attached to anyone that would take me there.

Damn, I probably would have waited for this body had I known it was just around the corner.

Fuji X-H1 about to be revealed this week.

- 5-Axis IBIS said to provide 5.5 stops of stabilization and is compatible with all lenses.
- Bluetooth, touch screen functionality added
- Thicker and bigger body than the X-T2/X-Pro 2 bodies. Deeper grip.
- Flicker reduction mode and Electronic 1st curtain shutter
- Improved auto-focus with even better low-light performance
- F-log built in. 4K recording with face detection and 200Mbps option for 4K.
- Improved EVF with 3.69 million dots.
- Improved blackout time.
- Small LCD screen on top of the body that displays current settings.

The deeper grip would solve my most fundamental issue with the X-T2 design, and that screen would be vastly more useful than the current analog exposure comp wheel. In-body IBIS brings it up to Oly standards, finally. A shame they still use the angled screen vs a flippy screen, though.

That's going to be a monster if those specs are accurate, Sony needs to announce the a7sIII quickly.
