Finally decided to make the switch to PS. Now the question I have is get a 5 Pro or wait for the 6 even if it is two years away.

I can't imagine the 6 is going to be so much better than the Pro that you should wait at least two years. It's likely going to be incremental improvement.

TVs are maxed and the Pro makes every use of that tech. Plenty of storage. I'm not sure why anyone would wait.

I have never had an issue with the PS5 Pro controller battery. I think you may have a bad device and need to return it. I can play MANY hours in any game I've tried, without having to plug the controller in.

Is there some kind of breaking in period like the old lithium batteries? That can't still be a thing. I actually rearranged my office>man cave yesterday so that it's now man cave>office so I can play comfortably plugged in at all times with existing cord.

However, I'll go off cord next time I play and see what kind of battery life I get.

And not that anyone cares what I think, but the controller is the only blemish I give this console. It has its pros and cons though.

Pros:
- More buttons; more functionality.

Cons:
- Hate the placement of the "start" button in upper right. It's too small and cumbersome to get to.
- The D pad being above the left stick instead of below the stick is giving me absolute fits. I have to look down to hit the damn buttons properly. To be fair, I think this just me breaking through Xbox game pad muscle memory for last 15-20 years. I think this will go away over time.
- The Xbox controller just feels better in the hands; more ergonomic but it does have fewer functions.

The "start" button placement sucks though.

I was a big Xbox guy for my console needs but honestly think Xbox is like 4ish years away from going the way of Sega. I don't have a PS5, so I can't speak to that. If I'm you, I'm waiting to see the price of the new Valve console before I invest in a PS5.

Could not disagree more.

The haptic controls on the PS5 controller are fantastic. Go play Astrobot and then rethink your opinion of the controller. There is nothing special about Xbox controllers. Right now, I think the PS5 controller and Switch2 Pro Controller are the best ones.

Not saying it's not a great controller. Just pointing out the pros and cons.

Once I acclimate, I think the only outstanding real negative will be that tiny ass start button and the Xbox controller just simply feels better in my hands which is totally a preference thing. I do think the additional functionality of the dual sense will override that. The dual triggers on the dual sense are no brainers and I'm not sure why Xbox hasn't done that before now.

As leftlane said though, it feels like Xbox hardware days are over anyway. They are going to cede the field here.

Valve already announced that it won't be priced like a console.

In general if you prefer a console experience it just makes sense to get a real console rather than a PC box that's trying to be like a console. It's always going to come with issues that consoles don't deal with at all

Not to mention you can't play some of the biggest games on it due to Linux and anti cheat not being supported. You can always dual boot windows but …that's not plug and play at all

I get what you're saying but if the Steam Machine is as user friendly as the Steam Deck has been, I think it's going to be a lot more console like than people are expecting. I was also under the impression that proton made it to where most games are at the very least playable on Steam OS, especially triple A titles. From my Steam Deck experience, the only games that I've had any issue getting to work are either niche indie titles or super old PC games. Also, with how the Deck was priced at launch, I'm not SUPER worried about the price of the Steam Machine but that remains to be seen.

If Xbox is out of the picture, the Playstation 6 may not be "priced like a console" either.

The Pro is $800 so I'm thinking the $500 price point for console is long gone at this point.

They still compete with Switch, and Sony needs to build a large audience quickly like they do every generation

They learned a big lesson with ps3 and they won't be going back to esoteric hardware with an insane price

Fortnite, Call of Duty, Madden, Fifa, Minecraft, GTA and so on. none of those games are playable online on SteamOS.

That's true. I was thinking more on the single player side but I understand that for some of the multiplayer stuff, it requires running it off windows. It's not hard to do that but it's not a seamless as a normal console.

I think my controller battery issue may have just been an initial bit of fake news. While it said it was 100%, I don't think it really was.

After leaving it in Rest mode all night, I played for about 1.5 hours today with zero loss in battery off the cord.

That sounds more normal, it's still a fairly short life but should last at least 4 hrs

Yeah, but man that is still pretty atrocious. I can use my Xbox controller with AA batteries for weeks. Regardless, really not a huge deal at all now that I've rearranged the room.

And I shouldn't be playing longer than 4 hours at a time anyway.

I don't want to get into an argument of which controller is better but is there a PS5 controller that is basically an xbox controller in design. I can't stand the PS controllers. I want the sticks offset and I want the body chunky.

Would you mind linking? Interested. Not sure I would act on it, but I can't seem to get past the D pad placement on this Dual Sense. It's an unnatural hand movement the more I use it.

I was asking for advice myself. I forgot a ? in my post.

Oh. Lol.

I don't know. I did a quick search and there seem to be alot of third-party options but I haven't done a deep dive on how much functionality you sacrifice to get what you want.

I'm not in the market yet for a PS5. Won't be looking until my xbox subscription expires. There isn't much holding me to xbox any more other than the controller.

Another pro for Sony PS Pro. It boots instantly and so do games (at least the one game I've played so far). Just a massive difference than my Xbox where I launch the Xbox and wait 3-4 minutes to get to Home screen and then launch a game and then wait 3-4 minutes before the game finally starts.

So, I'm looking at a 6-8 minute difference between the two just to get the machine turned on and going.

I just pulled the trigger on the PS5 Pro Black Friday deal. I want the best visuals for Arc Raiders, BF6, and GTA6. I don't care if I'm only locked at 60 fps since my TV only has 120 Hz, but no VRR.

Any good Black Friday deals on PS5 memory?

No idea.

I am glad I got the PS5 pro. It's a noticeable upgrade especially on Arc Raiders. I think the textures look too muddy on the regular PS5, and also the pro has a steady locked 60 fps.
