I still have a steam link and it actually works pretty good; however, playing PC games on a controller isn't always ideal. It was terrible when the steam link first came out, but it's gotten better over time. Some games were near impossible to map to a controller, still required a mouse and/or third party applications.

For example, I tried to play MSFS 2024 in my bedroom the other day using my new Honeycomb Echo Aeronautical controller.

Seemed like a good idea, but the steamlink didn't recognize it. I had to run a usb cable from my desktop in my living room to put the dongle within visual range of where I was using the controller. The controller works with my steamdeck, so hopefully that won't be a problem with the new console.

The bigger problems were that since I was using the steamlink, I basically needed a keyboard, mouse, and an Xbox controller on top of the other controller to properly navigate. Some menu items required using the A, X, Y, and B buttons (which the honeycomb doesn't have and keyboards don't use) due to being on a steamlink necessitating the use of a Xbox controller. The Xbox controller is terrible for navigating the menus in MSFS 2024 for PC, so a keyboard and mouse was really needed to handle that. That's a lot of peripherals for playing on the couch or bed, which is where most console players want to be.

It's honestly just much easier to play MSFS 2020 on my Xbox or Aerofly 2 on the steamdeck if I need a quick flight and don't have time to set up all the PC sim gear in my living room.

I really hope this console bridges the gap and further pushes developers to make games controller friendly. Not everyone has room for a dedicated computer desk in their house.

I 3D printed this case, it's pretty good. But now this same guy has made an updated version of the case, so now i'm in the process of printing that.

A lot of these were bought by scalpers and immediately listed on eBay. Reddit has a campaign to report all the scalpers on eBay for selling a product they aren't in possession of yet.

I don't know if scalpers are as morally bankrupt as terrorists, but I am willing to have that conversation.

And eBay doesn't give a ***** They haven't yet at least in their loooong history of allowing this type of behavior.

I have one of the original Steam controllers. Haven't tried it in years, maybe I should give it a try again. I'm mostly a WASD + mouse gamer, but there are a few games that I play that are much better with a controller (which for me is an Xbox controller).

Man, I love my og lcd steam deck, and i know the market is jacked, but $800 is crazy...

Refurb 256gb LCD models are actually in stock for $319, that's not a bad deal. The refurb stuff is never in stock.

I told myself when it came back in stock I'd buy it ASAP...

Got tired of waiting and just got a PS5 and told myself I'd get the cheapest version of Steamdeck when it came back...

Based on those prices I can't imagine paying for that unless it's your only gaming system.

Our nanny has one and brought it by the house the other day for me to see. Pretty cool tech. Much bigger than I was personally expecting (in a good way).

She said she bought it like 5 years ago for $400 which was a fortune to her at the time. The prices now are crazy.

Same price as my PS 5 Pro that I purchased a few months ago. Lol.

Same. Have to say, I was worried I'd regret the purchase at the time but with these prices being what they are, I feel like it was a steal now.

Prices revealed. $1050, no controller, 512GB storage, weaker than a PS5 from 2020….

You can get a PS5 Pro with a controller and 2TB for $150 less

Steam Machine looks DOA

Not unexpected but damn. Honestly Steam should have waited until RDNA 5 hits APUs in 2028 or 2029.

Edit - looks like AMD is releasing FSR4 for RDNA 3 APUs, so that will help some.

Linus review on it.

Brutally fair IMO. The pricing is the killer. And I don't blame Valve for that. Steam Deck may have launched at the perfect time, only for the Machine to have a launch window at the worst. ALL devices are feeling the crunch which of course, means our wallets are. I just pulled the trigger on an IPhone 17 today even though I was waiting on the 18. Simply due to the upcoming price increases making me say screw it, the 17 is plenty for me.

This sucks. I'm sure I'll still get one but I'll hold off for now.

No way they are going to sit on a finished project of this size for 3+ years. It's completely not ideal of course but punch it out and start refinements for the second version to hit that goal if plans allow for it.

Yea, $1500 for that pos bundle is a hell no. You can build a hell of an AM4 based pc with plenty of DDR4 ram and a stronger gfx card for that price.

At this point, I don't see any way for the next gen consoles to launch anytime soon. The PS5 and Xbox Series are very well put together devices.... just let the devs keep making optimized games for these things for the next 2-3 years.

And maybe it's just me cause I'm a 40 pushing 50 gamer, but I spend a lot of my game time catching up on my backlog of games (some of which are PS4 era games). I also spend a lot of time playing my childhood/retro games.

I feel like there is a large % of gamers that are more than happy with their current devices... just keep making games for them.

There are likely a lot of gamers that are happy with current devices.

However, I would argue there's no reason to delay next gen. It's already designed and ready to go, and there's no guarantee that the AI memory crisis fades anytime soon.

Next-gen exclusives certainly doesn't make any sense, so there's no need to wait even if the price is high. There will be consumers that want an upgrade even at a high price.

Launching sooner will also benefit more games sooner (PS6 versions of games) for when people finally do decide to upgrade.

I put this on another board a few days ago but I got an email from Digital Storm (who I bought my PC from)...they are offering an RTX 5090 for.....$3,800. For just the card. Nothing else. First come; first serve to existing customers before they release to the market. I paid less than that for my entire rig with an RTX 4090 last year. lol/cry.

Yeah I upgraded to a PS5 Pro for this very reason... just in case. After Sony announced the price hike, Costco carried their bundle at the old price for a few weeks so I jumped on that.

Got a Series X at launch... got a Steamdeck Oled couple years ago... and now the PS5.... I definitely do NOT need all those consoles, but I definitely locked in at the right time.
