Every recruiter and hiring manager I've talked to says ATS does far less than most job seekers think it does. It's kinda become a bogeyman for a lot of people.
I was helping review candidates for an associate role on my previous team and it was kind of insane. Granted I'm in a very high volume/popular field (design) but we had over 2000 applicants inside two weeks and eliminated probably 90% of them almost instantly due to location or lack of any applicable experience.
