I have done my version of this for quick beans for years. First time I cooked them I didn't get a bowl they were gone before I got to them. I wasBBQing pork steaks.

Easy and trust me no one cares the beans are canned they just eat. Some times I add a can of ranch style Jalapeno's beans.
Just an old dad who raise 3 Ags. Inherited 2 more. GIG’EM

I know not beans, but the best black eyed peas I've ever made I skipped the bacon and peppers and just threw 2-3 heb jalepeno poppers into the pot depending on size.

Are forever known in my family as "Texags Beans"…. They have become a staple of our family parties and always requested at work cookouts, etc.

If you wanted to use dry beans, how would you best do that and incorporate this recipe?

I've done it over the years. Just soak the beans like you normally would for dry beans and use the same recipe listed. They won't be the same consistency though. You might want to thicken it a bit. I seem to remember mashing some of the beans or something back in the day.

Yeah, the "juice" from the canned beans is thiccer like a thin syrup and you don't get that from water liike you'd have to add to use to cover the dry beans (that had soaked overnight). Not the same.

So if the dry beans recipe is l3ss thick, then you must be adding water. How much water?

When using canned beans, do you use all the juice from the can, or pour some off first?

I always rinse the beans from the can. I Never add water tho.

Never rinse. Dump every last bit of canned juice into the pot.

Same. Lots of salt in that juice. We usually use clamato and a little beer to make up whatever liquid is needed, if any.

And if anyone hasn't read through the entire thread and uses Clamato, be sure to check with everyone that will eat them for shellfish allergies. I made them one year for a 4th of July party, and just before serving, I announced there was Clamato in the beans. It stopped my brother's wife in time to keep her from having any. Now, I always let everyone know well in advance, and if the party is big enough, I'll make two batches, one with V8. My wife likes the V8 version more.

Instead of clamato or V8 I use Zing Zang

It's a bit less runny and has a little more depth to it.

Certainly, very good beans but I'm partial to the Fido recipe. Going to a rib cookoff tomorrow and Wife is entering Fido's recipe in the bean category. I think it's a step above what's usually turned in around here. We'll find out tomorrow.

Made these yesterday and learned something new. Use tortilla chips like at a Mexican restaurant to scoop and eat the beans, it's great. If you drink a bottle of tequila while watching the ags in a tight game with your buddy, you can eat the whole pot. I also learned that.

Feeling a bit rough today but so worth it.

Now you have me thinking about beans again & since it's a wet day in Colorado I had the wife make beans
for lunch. This is the Fido recipe.

Okay, I just made my first pot of beans per the recipe to go with our brisket today. They were as good as advertised!

I told the wife and her Mom about the source and the thread title and they both agreed it's appropriate. The wife said they were the best beans she's ever had anywhere and her Mom said the same. They will be in regular rotation as requested.

The only variance for me was that I heavily seasoned the onions with Tony Cachere's "More Spice" creole seasoning, because why not?

Next time I will brown the bacon first before cooking the onions. I found it didn't work very well per the original instructions.

I am not the Six Million Dollar Man, but I might need that surgery. "We have the technology, we can rebuild him!"
